North Atlantic Industries Unveils 3U cPCI Off-The-Shelf Solutions

Improving a wide range of communication functionalities in various land, sea and air military platforms, North Atlantic Industries (NAI) has introduced a family of 3U cPCI off-the-shelf solutions.

Configured with Freescale’s (News - Alert) PowerPC MPC8536 or Analog Devices’ Blackfin BF533 processor, the 75DP3 is a single slot, 3U cPCI SBC. It supports functions such as Digital I/O (Discrete, Differential, TTL), Analog I/O (A/D, D/A, RTD, Strain Gage), Motion Control and Sensor Interfaces (Synchro/ Resolver/LVDT/RVDT Measurement and Simulation, Encoder/Counter), the company stated.

The company is a supplier of embedded solutions and has been delivering differentiating products to its customers in the Defense, Homeland Security, and Aerospace Industries since 1955.

“NAI has made a strong commitment to support the needs of our embedded computing customers. Due to SWaP-constrained applications and increasingly reduced budgets, customers are more than ever looking for off-the-shelf total solutions that require less effort and expense to deploy,” said Lino Massafra, vice president of Sales and Marketing. “Our new 3U cPCI product family offers a higher level of functionality and integration which translates into increased performance for our customers.”

Combined with Wind River’s VxWorks 6.x BSP and NAI’s full complement of libraries, the SBC Processor’s (News - Alert) U3 Processor Module makes use of Freescale’s 1.25 GHz e500 core MPC8536 PowerPC processor. The U2 Processor Module allows users to confidently take advantage of the powerful real-time Visual DSP++ Development environment as it is designed with Analog Devices’ (News - Alert) 500 MHz low power BlackfinBF-533 processor. Real-time “C” code applications can be developed and deployed quickly for sensor control and communication management systems, as they will now have NAI’s function libraries.

In December 2010, the company announced the availability of a 6U, VME Single Board Computer (SBC) with multi-function and communications I/O options. The 64EP3 eliminates the need for a separate SBC for I/O intensive system applications. The processor provides real-time, intelligent sensor data acquisition and local data management operations such as analysis, algorithm manipulation and control of all I/O functions, the company stated in a press release.
