RFaxis Designs Chip for Gemtek Technology's PCI-E Mini card

RFaxis, a fabless semiconductor company focused on innovative, next-generation RF solutions for the wireless connectivity and mobility markets, has designed its high-performance single-die/single-chip RFX2402 RF Front-end IC (RFeIC) into the latest WiFi 3x3 MIMO (Multiple Input/Multiple Output) PCI (News - Alert)-E Mini card from Gemtek Technology Co., Ltd., a tier-1 Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) for wireless broadband solutions. This enables a significant deal between Gemtek (News - Alert) and a leading French telecom company.

In a press release, Randy Hsu, vice president of engineering, Gemtek, said, “Top-tier telecoms and carriers require high quality and affordable broadband solutions that keep pace with the exploding Wi-Fi demand for higher data rates and pervasive connectivity throughout homes and businesses. The cost-effective RFaxis silicon-based RFX2402 RFeIC enables reliable RF connectivity even in locations challenged by dead spots or weak zones. Additionally, the RFX2402's miniature 3x3mm package allows us to design a very compact WiFi (News - Alert) MIMO PCI-e Mini card, and the on-die matching and filtering of this RFeIC makes system integration very easy so that our Front-end design and integration cycle time can shortened by more than a factor of three. Because of the RFX2402, we are able to rapidly deliver a high performance, multi-channel WiFi access solution to our major telecom customer in France.”

Gemtek Technology Co., Ltd. is a global leader in wireless broadband products and solutions, offering a wide range of residential and business connectivity solutions. Gemtek's successes with wireless broadband technology and expertise in innovating wireless connectivity solutions have garnered major customers such as Intel, Cisco (News - Alert)/Linksys, Netgear, etc.

Mike Neshat, chairman and CEO of RFaxis, Inc., said, “We are truly excited for Gemtek and their major telecom win in France. Working intimately with major ODMs such as Gemtek is a core component of our go-to-market strategy. For quality wireless connectivity, the RF Front-end is typically the weakest link. By taking advantage of our highly-efficient and best-cost RFeICs, major ODMs can rapidly and cost-effectively amplify the value of their wireless connectivity devices, and enable their top-tier customers to proliferate reliable high-performance broadband access throughout the global wireless ecosystem.”

RFaxis was in news recently when the company signed a distribution agreement with WT Microelectronics, a leading distributor of electronic components and semiconductors in Asia. WT Microelectronics will distribute RFaxis' complete product lines including its RF Front-end Integrated Circuits (RFeIC) and RF components in Taiwan, China, India, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.
