According to industry insiders, Cisco (News - Alert) is likely to introduce tools that will enable its network service providers to build their own high-speed networks.
CNBC reported the industry giant would go this route as opposed to showing a new, high-speed broadband network of its own.
The San Jose, Calif.-based company has fueled speculation by saying the announcement will “forever change the Internet and its impact on consumers, businesses and government,” in a company statement released on March 8.
Cisco shares rose slightly in after-hours trading, after ending the regular session nearly 4 percent higher at $26.14, CNBC reported.
In yet another sign that LTE (News - Alert) will ultimately prevail over WiMAX as the new standard in wireless communications, Cisco is reportedly exiting the WiMAX access network market, which it entered when it acquired Navini (News - Alert) Networks in 2007, TMCnet reported on Monday.
