MarkLogic® Data Hub Service, Running on Amazon Web Services, Works to Tear Down Data Silos

MarkLogic Corporation, a leading operational and transactional Enterprise NoSQL database provider, is providing a complete cloud services portfolio, running on Amazon Web Services (News - Alert) (AWS), that will give enterprise customers fast, flexible and cost-effective access to operational data hubs and dynamic query services that are essential for breaking down data silos and putting corporate data to work.

MarkLogic has been working with AWS to optimize, bullet-proof, and secure the new MarkLogic Data Hub Service on AWS, with the goal of allowing large global organizations to quickly take advantage of MarkLogic's enterprise-class NoSQL database capabilities - such as ACID transactions, Semantics, and metadata management - while enjoying the benefits of a simplified deployment model and predictable pricing for unpredictable workloads running in production.

"We have been working with AWS for almost 10 years, and it has been incredible watching them grow their cloud footprint to include advanced technology features our enterprise customers have come to depend on from MarkLogic," said Dave Ponzini, Executive Vice President, Marketing and Corporate Development at MarkLogic. "A key focus for us is meeting our customers where they are today and preparing for the data challenges of tomorrow. AWS is a market leader in cloud services, and we are proud to be working with them to ensure large organizations everywhere can easily build, secure and manage their applications using MarkLogic on AWS."

Unlike other databases, MarkLogic's unique architecture allows instances to be added and removed from the underlying database in seconds. This ensures a more gile, scalable, and cost-effective means of meeting peak workload demands and managing data costs when running in a serverless environment in the cloud. Key benefits derived from the MarkLogic Data Hub Service running on AWS include:

  • Predictive analytics to forecast workload capacity needs - By leveraging analytics and target tracking through AWS Spot Fleets, MarkLogic Data Hub Service can proactively forecast capacity needs and identify data usage patterns to predictively and automatically run the right infrastructure resources at the right time to scale the right workloads in production.
  • The highest level of data security in the cloud - MarkLogic worked with AWS to integrate its advanced encryption capability with native AWS Key Management Services (KMS), creating the highest standard of database encryption in the cloud today. MarkLogic also built its services to operate with Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC). Together this protects customers at the network level and the data level.
  • The most cost-effective pricing for varied workloads - MarkLogic's unique ability to separate compute from storage at the database level enables Data Hub Service to utilize AWS Spot Fleets to provide customers with the lowest pricing available without disrupting peak workloads or causing heavy latency issues as other systems do.

The relationship between MarkLogic and AWS dates back to 2009. AWS is the preferred cloud provider for a large percentage of MarkLogic's enterprise customers. MarkLogic is also an AWS Partner Network (APN) Advanced Technology Partner and MarkLogic's first two Software-as-a-Service offerings - the MarkLogic Query Service and now the MarkLogic Data Hub Service - are available on AWS Marketplace.

As a leading multi-model database for integrating data from silos, MarkLogic is the NoSQL platform of choice for many mission-critical, customer-facing operational and analytic applications in large enterprises, including investment banking, healthcare, life sciences, insurance and public sector systems. To help customers quickly deploy and run the MarkLogic database platform on the cloud, MarkLogic provides pre-packaged cloud formation templates and Amazon Machine Images (Amazon AMIs) for creating managed clusters on AWS.
