Parks Associates: 23% of U.S. Broadband Households Own a Wrist-Worn Connected Health Device

DALLAS, Aug. 15, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- New Parks Associates research shows 23% of U.S. broadband households own a wrist-worn connected health device, the most common of the connected health devices. Parks Associates will host its fifth-annual Connected Health Summit: Engaging Consumers, August 28-30 at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego, to discuss strategies to drive both adoption and ongoing engagement among connected consumers for these solutions.

"Wrist-worn devices such as smart watches and fitness trackers are lightweight and portable and can integrate key functions such as PERS or medication reminders," said Kristen Hanich, Research Analyst, Parks Associates. "They've easily integrated into consumers' daily routines—75% of smart watch owners use their device every day."

The session "Emerging Connected Health Tech: Next Wave of Innovation," 1:30 p.m. on August 30, will examine innovations in use, from wearables to smart speakers, and look at future innovations, such as augmented and virtual reality, voice assistants, and robotic care assistants.

Speakers for the sessions include:

  • Jennifer Fraser, Director, User Experience, Macadamian
  • Stuart Patterson, CEO, LifePod
  • Nathan Treloar, President & COO, Orbita
  • John Valiton, CEO, Reemo Health

"As with any technological innovation, it's critical to focus on the people that will be at the centre of its use," said Jennifer Fraser, Director, User Experience, Macadamian. "Who are the end users, and what value does it bring to them? This may seem obvious, but far too many companies are seduced by the novelty of the latest technology."

"The timing and focus of the Connected Health Summit couldn't be better," said Stuart Patterson, CEO, LifePod. "The latest innovations in consumer devices and services, like LifePod's voice-first, Virtual Caregiver service, will solve the challenge of 'the last 10 feet' by providing a natural yet powerful user experience for an unlimited number of connected health use cases."

"There are many digital and connected health conferences, but the Connected Health Summit is the only one that meaningfully explores the intersection of consumer engagement and technical innovation. I'm very excited to be participating in this important industry event," said Nathan Treloar, President, Orbita, which provides the healthcare industry's first enterprise-grade platform for creating and maintaining voice and chat bot applications.

"The belief that seniors don't use technology is a falsehood," said John Valiton, CEO, Reemo Health. "The reality is connected health has traditionally been an afterthought or fundamentally misaligned in how it was designed for a senior to use. Making the experience simple, personalized, and supportive empowers consumers to maintain their health and ultimately protect their independence."

The 2018 Advisory Board includes executives from Best Buy; Care Innovations, an Intel company; Comcast; EarlySense; GreatCall; Life365; MDLive; Mosaic Growth Partners; Omron Healthcare; Orbita; Providence St. Joseph Health; and Walmart.

Event Sponsors include Independa, Rapid Response Monitoring, MDLIVE, Alarm.com, BodiMetrics, Forgerock, GiftCard Partners, Nortek Security & Control, Personal Connected Health Alliance, Qualcomm Ventures, Z-Wave, and Pathway OME.

Registration is open, and media are invited to attend. To request data or an interview, contact Julia Homier at [email protected], 972-996-0214.
