Artificial Intelligence Pioneer, Involved in General AI and Machine Learning Startup, Won Golden Goose Award


POTOMAC, Md., Oct. 17, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Prof. Lotfi Zadeh of U.C. Berkeley was posthumously awarded the 2017 Golden Goose Award in September at the Library of Congress in Washington DC, for his pioneering contributions to computer science and their enormous global societal and economic impacts.  "We are very proud of his numerous achievements and his receiving another prestigious award.  In the past few years, he was a technical advisor and contributor to our company, as well as a major shareholder," said Dr. Bijan Tadayon, CEO of Z Advanced Computing, Inc. Prof. Zadeh is one of the top scientists and visionaries of all time, impacting computer science, electrical engineering, and applied mathematics. He received 25 honorary doctorates and more than 50 engineering and academic awards, including induction into the AI Hall of Fame. Known as "The Father of Fuzzy Logic", he is also recognized for his ground-breaking research on semantics of natural languages, computational theory of perceptions, and computing with words, with numerous diverse applications, such as in consumer goods and appliances, control systems, and Natural Language Processing (NLP). His numerous innovations spanned decades, e.g., from the co-invention of Z-transform for signal processing in 1950s to the invention of Z-number for dealing with data uncertainty just a few years ago.  His seminal 1965 paper has been cited more than 71,000 times, and his Google Scholar score is more than 180,000, which are among the highest recorded.  He was a Fellow of the IEEE, AAAS, ACM, AAAI, and IFSA, and a member of 7 Academy of Sciences. He was the founder and the director of Berkeley Initiative in Soft Computing (BISC).  He also served on the editorial boards of over 70 journals and chaired numerous conferences.  He continued his active research until he passed away on September 6 at age 96.
