IDC Government Insights Reveals 2017 Rankings of Top 50 Vendors and Top 25 Enterprises Selling IT to Federal GovernmentIDC Government Insights revealed the winners of the 2017 IDC (News - Alert) Government Insights Federal IT Rankings today. In its second year, the industry award program categorizes and evaluates the revenues of leading global technology and service providers based on calendar year revenues from government institutions for hardware, software, and/or services. To download the list in its entirety, please visit the Federal IT Rankings website. Two categories of companies are ranked: 1. Federal IT Rankings: Top 50: This list includes vendors that derive more than one third of their revenue from government institutions. Lockheed Martin (News - Alert), Northrop Grumman Systems, and Leidos top the 2017 list. 2. Federal IT Rankings: Enterprise 25: This list is comprised of enterprise companies serving multiple industries that derive less than one third of their revenues from government institutions. IBM (News - Alert), Dell, and Intel rank high on the 2017 list.
These lists, the first of their kind, rank the leading IT providers to the federal government based on revenues from the sale of information technology hardware, software, and services rather than on potential business traditionally reflected in multiyear contract awards. While other industry lists include non-IT spending that may end up in IT contracts such as management, consulting, and energy costs, they don't necessaril represent pure information technology products and services. The IDC Government Insights Federal IT Rankings eliminate this information and only present revenue numbers based on the federal government's IT spending for Fiscal Year 2016. In addition, the IDC Government Insights' industry expertise sets the Federal IT Top 50 Rankings apart from traditional industry lists to offer government IT vendors keen insight into the government IT ecosystem, including who controls the market and how much money is being spent. "What's interesting is that some companies, especially those near the top of the two lists, have been leading government IT vendors for years. Other companies may appear on the lower part of the list one year, but not the next, because of significant contract wins or losses," said Shawn P. McCarthy, Government Insights Research Director. For more than 50 years, IDC has collected and analyzed IT industry data to provide insight and guidance. Beginning this year, IDC Government Insights is systematically collecting global government IT revenue information and tracking the growth of the largest industry IT vendors in an effort to help both end users and IT suppliers alike, make the most strategic decisions for their institutions. The data is analyzed by IDC Government Insights analysts who use their understanding of global trends and industry activities to create meaningful rankings. IDC analysts also put the information in the context of industry trends for the benefit of both the institutions that buy technology, as well as the companies that provide IT solutions to the industry.
