ManageEngine Detects Insider Threats with Firewall Analyzer

ManageEngine, the real-time IT management company, today announced that Firewall Analyzer, its firewall security and configuration management application, now detects insider threats. Available immediately as a beta version, the new feature helps IT admins and network security managers avoid issues posed by insider threats.

ManageEngine (News - Alert) will exhibit Firewall Analyzer and its new insider threat detection feature along with the rest of its IT management and security portfolio at RSA Conference 2017 being held in San Francisco, Feb. 13-17, 2017. Attendees who visit the company in Booth S2439, South Expo, will also have a chance to win a Star Wars drone by playing Hack Attack, the company's IT security-themed, virtual reality game.

Insider threats are emerging as one of the biggest security challenges facing organizations. According to the IBM X-Force Research 2016 Cyber Security Intelligence Index, 60 percent of all attacks were carried out by insiders. Usually, the attacks are caused by employees, business partners, or contractors who misuse their access to business-critical data. Whether the result of malicious, negligent or accidental behavior, the attacks are costly. Ponemon Institute's (News - Alert) 2016 Cost of Cyber Crime Study found that malicious insider attacks cost organizations more than $167,000 per attack.

"Cloud application control is a growing area of concern among enterprise IT managers today. With the increasing adoption of the holy trinity of IT - BYOD, SAAS services, and mobile apps - it's becoming hard to tighten the screws like old times. A single 'block-this, block-that' policy won't work anymore, making an 'analyze, prioritize, take action' model the only way to go," said Dev Anand, director of product management at ManageEngine. "With the new insider threat detection feature, Firewall Analyzer customers using security devices and appliances from Fortinet (News - Alert), Cisco, pfSense, WatchGuard, Check Point, Juniper, Sourcefire, and Palo Alto Networks can now visualize the top 10 users across various SaaS services and applications."

Firewall Analyzer now includes an insider threat detection feature that proactively detects any insider threats so they can be avoided. This new feature collects firewall logs and analyzes end users' activities, offering details such as sites accessed, apps used and bandwidth consumed. Admins can create an access control list or configure firewall policies to block access to specific apps or sites. When end users access unauthorized apps or sites, admins are notified so they can respond immediately.
