Nerdio Adds Windows Server 2016 and Windows 10 to its VDI-Powered Platform

CHICAGO, Jan. 23, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Nerdio (www.getnerdio.com), a leader in ITaaS technology, announced today that Windows Server 2016 and Windows 10 (emulated) are now available on the Nerdio VDI platform. Customers now have access to the latest version of the Windows server and desktop for virtualization.

Due to its uniquely flexible architecture, Nerdio makes the upgrade path insanely easy for customers, enabling them to test new operating systems non-disruptively in a production environment before migrating all users. The new Windows version can be installed on a test desktop and assigned to a group of test users, who then have the option of logging into their existing desktops or the new version and can also switch between the two easily. Test users can run the new operating system against existing data and applications, in order to identify any issues and notify the IT team of components that need to be updated or fixed. Most importantly, users can always log into their original desktops without losing any work.

"We're pleased to offer our customers the latest and greatest Windows versions as VDI, at no extra cost. The new upgrade is optimized for the cloud and features improved security, an enhanced user interface, and faster performance," said Vadim Vladimirskiy, CEO at Nerdio.

Windows Server 2016 offers better time accuracy for both physical and virtual machines, and can also host services that are compliant with upcoming regulations, which require a 1ms accuracy with regards to UTC. Other new features include extended group policy options, performance improvements, simplified network management, and support for Windows containers on Windows 10.

"We always test major upgrades in a POC environment first, internally in production, and then with new deployments before offering new options to our customers," added Vladimirskiy. "They can rest assured that we've put Windows Server 2016 through this rigorous standard of testing."

"Once available to customers, upgrades can be deployed risk-free, thanks to Nerdio's pre-deployment testing capabilities. In-house testing is a critical step in performing OS upgrades for virtualized desktops," said John Mario, Nerdio's SVP of Operations. "With Nerdio, the new OS only gets published to all users after the test users validate that everything is working properly. This not only minimizes disruptions, but means you can seamlessly create updates without having to make any physical changes to the end-user setup."

Nerdio's VDI-powered platform delivers a comprehensive, seamlessly integrated IT environment, complete with unlimited virtual servers, virtual desktops, the complete Microsoft suite, security, disaster recovery, and more. Even with the availability of operating system upgrades, pricing remains the same; there are no additional costs involved in upgrading to Windows Server 2016 or Windows 10.
