Hurricane Electric Expands Global IP Transit Network to MichiganHurricane Electric, the world's largest IPv6-native Internet backbone, announced today that it has established a core network Point of Presence (PoP) at 123Net's premier DC1 data center. Located at 24700 Northwestern Highway, Suite 700, in the Detroit suburb of Southfield, Michigan. This is Hurricane Electric's (News - Alert) first PoP in the state. One of four data centers that 123Net owns and operates in Michigan, the 18,000 square foot DC1 facility offers high-capacity colocation and disaster recovery space as well as 2(n+1) redundancy, enabling continuous service by safeguarding against equipment failure. Additionally, the carrier neutral data center is SSAE-16 audited and features independent AC systems, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), and on-site generators with priority fuel contracts. 123Net's network includes four metro SONET rings and long-haul optical fiber networks that span 3,000 route miles and 50 node throughout the state of Michigan and its growing technology industry. With the launch of this new PoP, customers of 123Net and others in Michigan now have access to Hurricane Electric's vast global network. The company has over 17,000 BGP sessions with over 6,000 different networks via more than 153 major exchange points and thousands of customer and private peering ports. Additionally, companies within the DC1 facility can also utilize Hurricane Electric's extensive IPv4 and IPv6 network through 100GE (100 Gigabit Ethernet), 10GE (10 Gigabit Ethernet) and GigE (1 Gigabit Ethernet) ports and as a result, both new and existing customers will be able to experience increased throughput, reduced latency and improved reliability.
