Research and Markets has announced the addition of the "Qatar - Telecoms, Mobile and Broadband - Statistics and Analyses" report to their offering.

Qatar has increasingly become a progressive market for telecoms and a leader in the Middle East. In 2016 the country has a vast array of networks and services on offer including 4G, VoLTE, LTE (News - Alert)-A, M2M and fibre-based technologies. It is also looking towards a future based on 5G.

Broadband penetration is among the highest in the region, with services available via ADSL, Fibre-to-the-Home (FttH), wireless and mobile.

Qatar has embarked on developing a national fibre-based access network, known as QNBN. Company (QNBN) was appointed to operate the network and offer wholesale broadband capacity to both Ooredoo and Vodafone (News - Alert) Qatar. Much of this development is being driven by a forward thinking and supportive government.

In mid-2016 another milestone was reached for Qatar with the landing of the AAE-1 submarine cable. Ooredoo was one of the key consortium members for the project and evisions faster global routing and more reliable bandwidth for the citizens of Qatar. AAE-1 links to the major Internet hubs of Asia-Africa and Europe.



Increasing international capacity will also assist in Qatar's long term development goals as stated in its National Development Strategy document Qatar National Vision 2030. Qatar firmly has its sights set on being a Smart City of the future and the hosting of the FIFA World Cup 2022 is attributing to the fast development of smart infrastructure initiatives.

- In August 2016 Ooredoo completed the landing of the AAE-1 submarine in Qatar

- Both VoLTE and LTE-A services have been launched in Qatar over the past twelve months or so

- In June 2015, the CRA announced Qatar would have mandatory reductions to roaming charges for voice calls, SMS, and mobile data coming into initial effect on the 1st of April 2016

- Qatar's second independent satellite is currently under construction with plans that Es'hail 2 would be launched in the third quarter of 2017
