With David Oh, Meta Scores a Three-in-One Trifecta

Augmented reality is not a game - it's a game-changer. At Meta (www.metavision.com), David Oh, the firm's new Head of Developer Relations, is another game-changer. In recruiting him away from Leap Motion, Meta scored in more ways than one. David Oh - who considers his role at Meta the dream of a lifetime - grew up with the first generation of immersive technology, which created a life-long passion for the cutting edge of technology. That is a passion that is now being fulfilled for him at Meta.

"We count on great, highly-motivated people to build our company into the leader of immersive AR technology," according to Ryan Pamplin, VP of Sales and Marketing at Meta. "David Oh is a sterling example of the kind of people who ensure that our AR technology will remain second to none.

"Developers - and the apps they create - will define AR as a productivity tool, one that will change education, retail, healthcare and a host of other businesses," Ryan said. "Having someone who understands developers - as well as the key role they play in the future immersive AR technology - puts Meta heads-and-shoulders above every other company developing AR hardware.

"With his background in immersive technology - especially with the critical hand-motion interface function - David Oh is helping us create and field the industry's most sophisticated AR-based productivity tool."

Before joining Meta, David had a remarkable career, the kind that prepared him for the critical role he plays as head of Meta's developer relations.

"My whole career was built on immersive products," David explained. "I spent more than 10years at Ubisoft building some truly fantastic games. Then I shifted to Leap Motion, where I work on developing and bringing to market hand tracking technology designed to be used with virtual reality. With this background, I really believe I will contribute to Meta, helping to build the ecosystem of the next wave of augmented reality developers.

"I've always been a big fan of technology, some of which still seems like magic to me," Oh said. "I grew up with an Atari joystick in my hand, and became hooked on Nintendo's pioneering moving gloved-hands game, Game and Watch. Now that was magical. The joy these video games gave me ultimately brought me to a tech-based career.

"Remarkably, I also had the privilege of working on Myst V: End of Ages with Ryan Miller. Myst was one of the games that influenced my childhood, showing me the power of immersive technology. That really opened up a world to me to understand how this immersive technology can influence your life.

"Working with Ryan Miller on Myst was one of those once-in-a-lifetime events. And I felt like that again when I first got to try the Meta 2 technology. Now, every day at Meta, I feel like I'm writing the new pages of a science fiction novel because I actually get to play with holograms and apps that never existed before.

"AR will not only enable people to better assemble complex products, such as jet and car engines, it will make people want to learn," Oh pointed out. "AR will democratize education for everyone, making new specific knowledge accessible to everyone. Before AR, only a select few had access to specific knowledge.

"If you're a technology fan like me, you've got to really try Meta 2," Oh concluded. "Meta 2's approach to AR is really something special for developers. Here at Meta, I'm building an ecosystem for developers that want to actually bring that type of excitement to this new generation of augmented reality users. They will lay the foundation for a paradigm shift that will change how people create, communicate and contribute. Because developers can build with us now, they can have a hand in transforming the future."

David Oh will be attending Unite LA on November first through the third, offering developers both demos and insights into Meta's groundbreaking next-generation AR technology.
