Object Management Group Chairs Continue Momentum to Advance Interoperability Technology Standards
Task Force chairs of the Object
Management Group® (OMG®) delivered updates
about the technology processes underway at OMG's quarterly membership
meeting from September 12-15 in Chicago, Illinois. An international,
open membership, not-for-profit technology standards consortium, the OMG
is a neutral forum where its membership of end-users, vendors,
government agencies, universities and research institutions develop and
revise standards that address a wide range of technologies and an even
wider range of industries.
On the meeting's last day, the following Chairs described their
accomplishments during the week and what they intend to achieve in
upcoming meetings:
-
Claude Baudoin, co-chair of the Business Modeling & Integration Task
Force and Owner and Principal Consultant at cébé IT and Knowledge
Management: "The TF continued to refine its understanding of
what to request in a forthcoming RFP for a Business Architecture
Metamodel, and has also defined a first list of questions to be asked
of the community in an RFI (News - Alert) on all aspects of risk management modeling
(business as well as operational risks)." Also a member of the Data
Residency Working Group, Mr. Baudoin reported that the group discussed
findings from the RFI responses received a few months ago, reviewed
the outline of a discussion paper on the subject, and is soliciting
help in writing the various sections of the paper. He also moderated
the OMG's IIoT
Challenges and Opportunities session which was a complimentary
event open to the public on Thursday, September 15th. He
stated, "The meeting delivered a lot of information through seven
presentations that covered systems assurance, modeling systems of
systems, how the Industrial
Internet Consortium® is advancing the understanding of the IIoT,
the role of OMG's Data-Distribution
Servie™ standard, and more."
-
Matthew Hause, co-chair of the Unified
Architecture Framework® Profile (UAF®) 1.0 Finalization Task Force
and GTM Technical Specialist, Engineering Fellow, PTC: "The UAF Group
worked with Systems Assurance to integrate threat and risk into the
UAF architecture framework."
-
Sanford Friedenthal, Systems Engineering Domain Special Interest Group
(DSIG) chair and Consultant at SAF Consulting: "The Systems
Engineering DSIG completed a year-long effort to baseline an initial
concept for a system modeling environment, which will be used as a
basis for deriving the requirements for the SysML™ v2 RFP."
-
Len Levine, Defense Information Systems Agency (News - Alert) Computer
Scientist, who co-manages the Liaison Subcommittee of the OMG's
Architecture Board: "The Liaison Subcommittee expects OMG UPDM™ and
SysML to be ISO international standards by end of this calendar year."
-
Kenichi Nakamura, chair of the Hardware
Abstraction Layer for Robotic Technology™ 1.0 Finalization Task
Force (HAL4RT™) and Director of Japan Embedded Systems Technology
Association (JASA): "We discussed the issues of the HAL4RT version
1.0-Beta1 specification."
-
Kenneth Rubin, co-chair of the Healthcare Domain Task Force and
Director of Standards and Interoperability at the U.S. Department of
Veterans Affairs Office of Knowledge Based Systems: "The Healthcare
Task Force is broadening its 'net', both re-opening the 'Letter of
Intent' for our Coordination of Care work to respond to increased
community interest, as well as commencing with plans to conduct a business
process modeling summit in Coronado exploring the viability of
sharable clinical processes and workflows that would be portable
across sites, EHR products, and institutions."
-
Ronald W. Townsen, Command, Control, Computing, Communications and
Intelligence Domain Task Force co-chair and Chief Engineer, General
Dynamics Mission Systems: "The TF is starting work on a Combat
Management System Navigation System Interface RFP (CMSNSI); DDS™
Monitoring RFP to allow systems to understand health of DDS/DDS
Security networks and is continuing work on TACSIT Data Interface RFP
Response. The TF is also planning for a Cyber
Security Workshop at the December and March meetings."
-
Dennis E. Wisnosky, EDMC, Senior Consultant - Head of FIBO
Development, "The Enterprise Data Management Council Financial
Industry Business Ontology (News - Alert)® (FIBO®) introduced and the OMG
