New solutions from ESET provide added cyber-security protection

Windows users now have the ability to stay safe online when using ESET with encryption tool, password management, webcam and router protection, and more.

TORONTO, Oct. 25, 2016 /CNW/ - Internet users now have more ways to stay protected from the latest cyber threats with the introduction of two new security solutions released today by IT security company ESET®: ESET Smart Security Premium and ESET Internet Security.

ESET's newly introduced lineup helps individuals stay protected from common cyber threats like webcam spying, data theft, and password misuse.

ESET Internet Security: Building on ESET's entry-level product, ESET NOD32 Antivirus®, ESET Internet Security brings users additional peace of mind through smart technologies:

  • Webcam Protection keeps prying eyes out. It controls processes and applications that access computer-connected or embedded web cameras, and displays notifications and allows you to block unwanted applications trying to access the camera.
  • Home Network Protection allows users to test the home routers for known vulnerabilities such as weak passwords or vulnerable firmware and suggests options to fix these possible issues. Also, an easy-to-access list of connected devices are shown.

ESET Smart Security Premium: With this new premium product, users will also have access to these additional security tools:

  • ESET Password Manager employs AES-256 encryption – the world's leading standard – to store and pre-fill all passwords. There's no need to remember long, awkward streams of characters, or to reuse the same password for multiple accounts.
  • ESET Secure Data uses encryption to ensure secure collaboration and data sharing while also protecting against data theft in the event o USB key or laptop loss.

In a recent survey, ESET found that 78 per cent of Canadians know that their webcams could be accessed by hackers to spy on them without knowledge, but they aren't being smart about protecting themselves and their families. For protection, one in four Canadians are simply putting a piece of tape over their webcams, and a full 25 per cent of Canadians are not taking any protective measures at all. Also, while routers continue to be an entry point for malware, more than 40 per cent of Canadians have not, or don't know if they have, changed the factory-set password, leaving it vulnerable to hacking attacks.

ESET uses multilayered technologies that go far beyond the capabilities of basic antivirus. More than 20 years ago, ESET started to incorporate proactive technologies into its scanning engine, and gradually implemented different layers of protection to strike at different stages of the cyber kill chain.

Consistently receiving top scores in independent tests, ESET has collected the prestigious VB100 award 98 times, by far the most by one security provider. Recently, ESET was the only security solution with 100 per cent protection among all products in SE Labs' Home Anti-Malware Protection test and was also undisputed No. 1 in spam protection, dominating the VBSpam Test and AV-Comparatives Anti-Spam Test.

ESET home products are sold on www.eset.com and through authorized retailers, including Best Buy, Staples and London Drugs. Learn more about ESET's security solutions here: https://www.eset.com/us/home/compare/windows-antivirus/.
