MSI Selects IDT Distributed-Power Architecture for Industrial Compute Solutions

SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --  Integrated Device Technology, Inc. (IDT) (NASDAQ: IDTI) today announced that Micro-Star INT'L CO., LTD. (MSI) selected IDT's distributed-power architecture for  two industrial compute boards.  MSI adopted IDT's power management ICs (PMICs) and proprietary distributed power unit (DPU) technology for a solution that delivers unparalleled flexibility and scalability. The chosen technology features IDT's new P9180A, a highly integrated scalable PMIC targeting a broad array of applications in the IoT, server, micro-server, storage, embedded and industrial market segments.

"We selected the IDT approach to power management for our new MS-98H6 and MS-98H2 boards because of the scalability and seamless integration with leading multi-core processors," said Peter Tsai, director of Product Marketing, Industry Platform Slution at MSI. "And IDT's distributed-power architecture allows our engineers to reuse their power subsystem designs across a variety of products, helping us contain design cycle time and costs."

The IDT solution's configuration options for the PMICs and DPUs enable system architects to leverage the devices' scalability and flexibility to address various cost, functionality or performance nodes for a broad family of solutions—reusing the same power architecture throughout. Power scalability is achieved through IDT's innovative distributed power architecture, which enables engineers to scale power beyond the PMICs' standalone capacity by adding DPUs to the system.

With the IDT power technology, system architects can reuse a single power subsystem for a range of Intel CPU-based platforms. In addition to processors, the PMICs support a wide variety of storage and I/O technologies.

"This family of advanced industrial computing solutions from MSI demonstrates the strength of our highly scalable distributed-power solution," said Sean Fan, vice president and general manager of the IDT Computing and Communications Division.  "The IDT PMIC and DPU solution allows power system scalability for design reuse across a range of price performance points in their product offering."
