Solis Energy's New LPT138 Includes Power over Ethernet Feature

Solis Energy, a manufacturer of outdoor power systems, has developed a new light pole power tap designed to supply Power over Ethernet (PoE) to compatible devices.

The LPT138 Adapter provides access to PoE power not generally available at the top of light poles by tapping into the electrical circuit used to power outdoor lights and converting it to PoE. With the addition of the two PoE ports to the LPT, multiple devices such as a surveillance camera and radio can be run simultaneously without the expense and difficulty of installing either an AC outlet, a separate PoE injector, or both for each device.

Solis Energy President Robert Reynolds emphasized the ease and speed of the device's installation process, and the convenience that the added PoE injectors brings to the customer.

"Our simple twist-lock design allows for quick and error-free installation," Reynolds said. "The PoE ports are located at the top of the light pole where the surveillance and communications equipment is typically mounted, which eliminates the need to run wires down the pole to power your devices."

Another new feature of the LPT138 is a molded, UV-resistant enclosure. Built with lightweight fiberglass, the enclosure is built to withstand extreme temperature variations, weather, and corrosion to protect the LPT138 and keep continuous power flowing in a variety of environmental conditions.

"It's a rugged, utility grade component designed for reliable, long term use," Reynolds said.

Drew Lentz (News - Alert) of Frontera Cosulting used approximately 150 LPT 138s to power wireless access points installed in a Texas RV park. The access points would only accept PoE power, making the device's ability to convert AC and DC to PoE integral to the project's success. Lentz said the LPT 138 was simple to work with and no issues occurred during installation.

"The process was very smooth and easy," Lentz said. "No component configuration or extra wiring needed."

Generally, Lentz has been "very satisfied" with the installation and performance of the device.

"It was a real pleasure to work with the LPT 138. It's almost as if the product was built from the ground up to accommodate our requirements," he said.
