AirFuel Alliance Grows Global Ecosystem with New Board Member Dell, Inc. and New Additional Members

BEAVERTON, Ore., July 20, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The AirFuel™ Alliance, a global consortium of industry leaders focused on enabling and accelerating the adoption of wireless power technology, is proud to welcome 13 new companies to its growing ranks including new Board member Dell, Inc.  AirFuel Alliance members — now more than 170 strong — are dedicated to creating the technical specifications, product certification, and global interoperability needed to help the world to power up without plugging in.

Bury, Cyspo Technology, DAVACO Ditigal, D3, Dell, HancomGMD, HCT, Infineon Technologies, InforCharge, Molex, RFTech Co., Semichips and Shenzhen Yijieneng Technology have all joined the Alliance this year and pledged their support for creating an open, wireless charging ecosystem.  Liam Quinn, Chief Technology Officer from Dell's End User Computing Group will also join the AirFuel Alliance Board of Directors.  "The wireless charging industry is at an exciting inflection point and so is the AirFuel Alliance," said Quinn.  "Dell is looking forward to being a proactive, engaged member."

Intel also confirmed their continued support. "AirFuel standards are driving the creation of products and solutions that give consumers the wire-free existence they crave.  We are excited to welcome new members into the Alliance," said Shiri Shneorson, Vice President, Mobility Client Platforms, Inte.

AirFuel Alliance members represent every part of the wireless charging value chain – from semiconductors and components to automotive and consumer electronics – and are using inductive, resonant and future technologies to create innovative products and breakdown wireless power transfer barriers.

  • For example, new Alliance member Dell recently partnered with veteran member WiTricity to produce the world's first system to wirelessly charge notebook computers based on the AirFuel specification. Built using magnetic resonance technology, this system unlocks the potential for high performance 30 watt wireless charging in the notebook PC market by offering the flexibility, efficiency and fast charging times that busy consumers demand.

"Dell's end users are demanding the convenience and freedom of a world without wires and Dell is proud to be leading the way with the AirFuel Alliance," said Kirk Schell, Vice President and GM, Commercial Client Solutions, Dell.  "We look forward to working with AirFuel to deliver the high power, resonant-based wireless charging solutions necessary to enable a true industry standard 'no wires' computer experience – and to bringing the next generation of wireless charging innovations to market."
