Revolutionary Health Technology Released To Address Record High National Obesity Rates

SAN DIEGO, July 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Obesity is a nationwide epidemic with rates as alarming as the Zika virus. More than 2 out of every 3 U.S. adults are overweight or obese. The average American is 24 pounds heavier than in 1960 and childhood obesity rates have tripled since 1980. There are almost 200,000 health related apps addressing this. Why the disparity?

According to a recent study by the National Cancer Institute, obesity is a huge cost to both the medical system and the individual, drastically impacting quality of life, risk of chronic diseases and certain forms of cancer, and shortening lifespan by an average of 14 years. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP) projects that 42% of American adults will be obese by 2030 and estimates an added $550 billion in national health spending, according to Duke University's health economist Eric Finkelstein, who led the new CDCP-funded forecast.

Physician counsel regarding need to reduce fat and sugar intake has been of primary focus with overweight, obese and diabetic patients, yet has often been devoid of tangible ways to change the underlying eating habits associated with the cause of these issues.

Without accurate information and resources, the obesity crisis is poised to continue. "We will not reduc the obesity epidemic until we acknowledge that the cause of obesity is unique and varied for many, and we are well-educated about what to eat for our specific circumstances. People now have access to their personalized insights via new revolutionary health tools that demonstrate basic nutrition can be simple and easy to grasp when accurate information is provided with clarity and simplicity," says Matt Riemann, nutrition and health sciences expert and founder of the personal health platform ph360. "Obesity is over three decades old and getting worse. That is why we created ph360 - to teach people how to make wise decisions about their food intake without being inundated with confusing and contradictory information," adds Riemann.

Technologies like Fitbit and ph360's new generation app Shae, which make it easy for people to know the answers to their personal health concerns, are becoming increasingly popular as people experience first-hand the limitations of being overweight. According to Riemann, these technologies are the very solution that will make significant headway in combating the nation's epidemic of obesity. "Shae approaches the obesity epidemic from an entirely new and much-needed perspective. It understands and applies cell biology, epigenetics, and nutrigenomics to recommend an eating plan tailored to a person's specific body, complete with a detailed food list and recipes, as well as a personalized exercise regimen based on current fitness level," he explains.

According to the National Institutes of Health, losing even a small amount of weight reduces risk for obesity-related diseases. Technology that does a lot of the work in achieving a healthy weight and lifestyle for the individual may very well prove to be the most effective solution capable of reversing the growing waist size of the average American.
