The Detroit Medical Center Offers Only Zika Virus Hotline in Michigan for Pregnant Women

The Detroit Medical Center:

WHAT:

As we head into warmer months with an expected increase in mosquito activity, the Detroit Medical Center (DMC) Maternal-Fetal Medicine Department launched the only Zika virus hotline in Michigan to assist expectant mothers with a history of travel to Zika-affected regions and their health care providers. This hotline is designed to aid pregnant patients and their providers with determining short-term and long-term testing and follow up care.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, there have been reports of a serious birth defect of the brain called microcephaly and other poor pregnancy outcomes in babies of mothers who were infected with the Zika virus during pregnancy.

WHEN:

The nurse-managed hotline is available: Monday thru Friday, 8 a.m. - 7 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.

WHERE:

The DMC Zika Virus Hotline is accessible by calling 1-888-DMC-3370.

WHO:

Pregnant women with a history of travel to Zika-affected regions and health care providers with a patient suspected of Zika exposure are invited to call the hotline.
