Building upon 150 years of history, Covestro wants to continue to be the partner of choice for customers across the value chain assisting them in overcoming global challenges such as urbanization, ageing population, and shortage of natural resources. "In order to be closer to our customers' needs in China, we have invested massively in our innovation hub in Shanghai and we always work closely with academics and government stakeholders on future development," Holly Lei, Senior Vice President, Business Unit Polycarbonates, Covestro Asia Pacific added. This market-based approach is very important to Covestro as the company works hand in hand with customers to provide them with the most flexible and tailored solutions to reduce costs and increase energy efficiency in a fast moving environment. A latest example of such unremitted innovation is Covestro's 3D printing solution, which has won the Ringier Technology Innovation Award 2016.

Sustainability and innovation for a better future: Mobility, Smart Home and Healthcare

The Chinaplas event is also the opportunity for Covestro to further illustrate its vision "To Make the World a Brighter Place" through stories of innovative and sustainable applications in the field of mobility, smart home and healthcare, which all represent potential growth for Chinese future development.

The immense art-deco flower made of Covestro's raw product materials, recycled and waste materials inside the booth, is a core testament to sustainability. For Holly Lei, this showcases Covestro's commitment to develop material solutions and technologies that benefit society and drive towards zero impact on the planet such as Makrolon® polycarbonate sheet product that enables intelligent and energy-efficient solutions for industrial and residential buildings cutting greenhouse gas emissions.

In addition, some of Covestro's solutions displayed are used to increase the durability and overall design of charging stations from charger lens and lighting cover to charger housing, front cover and plug housing. This eventually helps foster the development of the electric vehicles market in China and partially overcome mobility issues linked to population growth and mass urbanization.

In the same way, Covestro is fully embracing the smart home trend by producing various products going from flexible designed TV sets to wearable materials that are functional, efficient, comfortable, durable and trend-setting. These devices can then be used to create appliances, heating, entertainment and security systems that can work as an integrated system rather than many separate components.

Finally, Covestro showcases some of its technology widely used in the healthcare sector with solutions for medical products ranging from insulin pens and pumps, inhalers, renal care and blood management to heart defibrillators, intravenous access components and surgical instruments used to assist patients. For instance, Bayblend® used for Integrated Healthcare Machine Housing is used in Chinese rural areas where community healthcare service is limited, a response to the trend toward outpatient treatment and in-home care.
