Mechanical Simulation Releases CarSim 2016.0

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Feb. 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Mechanical Simulation Corporation is proud to announce the release of CarSim®  2016.0 vehicle dynamics software. According to CEO and Chief Technology Officer Dr. Michael Sayers, "Simulation of vehicle behavior is becoming even more critical, with thousands of scenarios to consider for development of ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems). Manufacturers and suppliers need to simulate realistic vehicle responses to ADAS controls in these scenarios."

CarSim might be used to simulate the vehicle, road network and possibly other vehicles, and linked with other simulation tools that handle the advanced control algorithms. According to Sayers, "For years, software tools have been connected using Simulink and MATLAB, from The MathWorks. A new option is functional mockup interface (FMI), a standard originally introduced in Europe for connecting multiple tools that work together in a simulation. A modular approach builds the overall simulation using tools that are best for certain specialized purposes. For example, the vehicle and road might come from CarSim, the tire behavior from another tool, such as TASS MF-Tyre®, control algorithms from MATLAB, and so on."

CarSim 2016 has new features for both new and advanced users. Improvements were made in the GI, plotting and animation that benefit all users. A number of new ADAS examples provide starting points for new engineers who are working with more complicated scenarios involving multiple vehicles and ADAS sensors. Advanced users will appreciate new GUI options for building and combining roads, sharing animation data, linking to user-developed custom tire models, connecting to other tools via Simulink and FMI, and linking to custom steering models.

In related news, TASS has introduced the first real-time version of their popular TASS MF-Tyre/MF-Swift® model, now available to run with CarSim 2016 for the dSPACE DS1006 RT system used for hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing.

Additional highlights of this release include:

• CarSim supports the direct import of GPS data files that can be obtained on-line. One source is the new page on the CarSim web site: https://atlas.carsim.com
• Multiple road surfaces are connected to form complex 3D intersections within a road network
• The steering system model was rewritten internally to support options for replacing and/or disabling parts of the model with external components
• The twist-beam model has been extended with six new GUI screens to account for the many compliance conditions that occur in the K&C tests and on the road
• VS Visualizer supports VS Results Analysis Package (VSRAP) files with all animator and video information from a run. Colleagues without CarSim can now view CarSim results
