2016 Golden Mousetrap Award Winners Announced at Ceremony Celebrating Top Advancements in Product Design and Manufacturing
SANTA MONICA, Calif., Feb. 10, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Design News today highlights the winners of the 15th annual Golden Mousetrap Awards, a program celebrating the American people, companies, and technologies that are driving progress in product design and manufacturing. Winners were named at an awards ceremony that took place on the evening of February 9 during UBM's annual advanced manufacturing event happening at the Anaheim Convention Center this week. The awards ceremony celebrated the next generation of talent in the engineering and manufacturing industry, naming recipients of two special awards:
Rising Engineering Star
Design News annually honors an outstanding young engineering professional with the Rising Engineering Star award, which recognizes the need to source engineering talent for the manufacturing industry and nurture the next generation of engineering professionals. This year's award is presented to Jessica Winter, a professor of chemical engineering and biomedical engineering at Ohio State University and co-founder of Core Quantum Technologies. She is currently working to develop fluorescing nanoparticles for medical diagnosis, imaging, and research.
Gadget Freak of the Year (in partnership with Allied Electronics)
The Gadget Freak of the Year award honors some of the best device inventions of the designer and builder community. The featured gadgets and devices incorporate electronic components, involve sensing, motion, timing, and/or networking elements, and the designers provide build instructions so the community can replicate the gadgets. The 2016 Award is presented to the Attack Dyno, a convenient and affordable way to bring an attack timer and dynamometer to the comfort of your own vehicle. It was created by Colorado State University students Marco Martinez/span>, Logan Rutt, Bryce Goertz, and Robert Coloroso. The team won $6,000, courtesy of Design News and Allied Electronics.
