EXPERT ALERTS:

How Americans Feel About Anonymous Taking on ISIS
Paul Hartley
Vice President of Technology and Telecommunications
Market Strategies International
"In the aftermath of the Paris attacks on Nov. 13, the 'hacktivists' of Anonymous very publicly declared war on ISIS, the terrorist group that claimed responsibility for the attacks. How do the citizens of this country feel about Anonymous declaring war on ISIS' online funding and recruitment channels? We asked a thousand people across the U.S. whether they supported or opposed the Anonymous cyberattacks against ISIS. While 59 percent are in favor, 24 percent are partially or fully opposed. It's clear there's a significant minority that is grappling with the ethical dilemmas hacking can raise, such as whether the end ever justifies the means."
Hartley has nearly 20 years of experience in the global telecom and tech sectors, focusing in the last decade on the North America market, where he led large research projects with clients including AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Charter, Cox, CenturyLink, Google, Cisco, Oracle and IBM. Prior to joining Market Strategies, Paul held similar roles at comScore and LGR Telecommunications. Over the past decade, he has worked extensively with market-leading telecom and tech clients in Europe, Africa/Middle East and SE Asia. Paul holds a master's and bachelor's degree in marketing, advertising and economics from the University of Cape Town in South Africa. He is available to discuss the poll and offer data for graphic depiction.

Laquan McDonald Shooting by Chicago Police Department
Antonio M. Romanucci
Principal and Partner
Romanucci & Blandin, LLC
"The death of Laquan McDonald is another example of a tragic and unnecessary shooting by the Chicago Police Department. This incident echoes the case of Latrice Wilson, who was shot at 24 times and struck 18 times by CPD officers in 2007. There is a distinct parallel between the two cases, with the exception being the presence of a dash cam in this shooting."
In light of the release, discussion and anticipated reaction of the controversial video showing a white Chicago police officer firing 16 rounds and fatally shooting 17-year-old Laquan McDonald, Romanucci can provide expert analysis, as he represented the family of Latrice Wilson, who was shot at 24 times and struck 18 times by CPD officers in 2007. The city of Chicago eventually reached a $4.5 million settlement with the family last year. There are distinct parallels between the Wilson shooting and the Laquan McDonald incident -- both tragic and unnecessary shootings by Chicago officers. However, the major difference was the absence of video in the Wilson case. Romanucci can speak to the use, need and importance of body and dash cameras by law enforcement; the similarities of the two cases; the overarching topic of police misconduct; and the ongoing use of excessive force by the CPD. He is a principal and partner of Romanucci & Blandin, LLC, a Chicago-based personal injury law firm recognized as one of the nation's eminent personal injury, police misconduct and civil trial practice law firms. Romanucci is known locally and nationally for his leadership, expertise and technique in the field of law, focusing his practice in wrongful death and personal injury, which includes police misconduct, aviation accidents, sports injuries and the representation of victims of sexual abuse.

Rising Uses, and Risks, of Drones in Business
John Fry
Partner, Technology, Intellectual Property Litigation and Drone Practice Groups
Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP
Drones, or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs or UASs) offer tremendous potential in technology, insurance, real estate, agriculture, public safety, disaster response, photography, news, entertainment and other industries. But people and companies using them may not realize that in some cases they are breaking the law. Says Fry: "I'd compare it to the 'Wild West' days of the Internet, when people built businesses faster than the law could keep pace. Anyone can buy a drone, but they may have no idea of the legal challenges they could face, or create for others."
Fry co-founded MMM's new Drone/UAV practice, and chairs MMM's IP Litigation practice. He has been a guest on WABE public radio's "On Second Thought," has been quoted several times in Law360, and has had columns published in a number of media outlets.
