Meteor Development Group Officially Launches Meteor Galaxy For Operating and Managing Connected Client Apps In The Cloud

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Meteor Development Group (MDG), the creator of the first unified JavaScript application development platform for mobile and web, today announced the general availability of its highly-anticipated Galaxy service following the recent release of Meteor 1.2 which included support for ES2015 and the popular React and Angular frameworks.

The addition of Percolate Studio expands customer success capabilities to maximize productivity and accelerate application deployment for customers with first commercial offering

In the era of apps and devices connected to the cloud, Meteor is the only full stack JavaScript App Platform for building, delivering and delighting developers and their users with "Connected Client" apps: rich mobile and browser experiences with instantaneous response times operating at cloud scale. The Meteor platform provides developers with the technology, tools and services to create apps for the web and for mobile marketplaces including iOS App Store and Google Play.

The Galaxy service was launched to provide development teams with a simple way to operate and scale Meteor apps in the cloud with features including metrics and performance management, smooth coordination of version updates between client code and cloud service code, along with advanced capabilities such as high availability.

"Development teams of all sizes are feeling the pressure to deliver consumer-grade experiences across the web and mobile devices in less time and at increased scale," said Geoff Schmidt, co-founder and CEO of Meteor. "Meteor helps them build applications to meet those demands, and now Galaxy helps them deliver and operate those apps. With access to Galaxy services, developers can focus on what they do best, creating the next generation of market-leading Connected Clent apps across the platforms of their choice."

Galaxy builds on top of Amazon EC2 Container Service to give Meteor developers a simple way to scale and manage apps, without requiring a sophisticated DevOps background. Matt DeBergalis, Meteor co-founder and VP Product, will present at the Amazon re:Invent conference on the architecture and design of Galaxy using Amazon ECS.

Galaxy is sold as a monthly or annual service and has several options for development teams to match multiple budgets. Galaxy includes features such as:

  • Dedicated RAM for unlimited apps across multiple containers and availability zones.
  • Coordinated version updates for apps for high quality 'hot deploy' scenarios.
  • Metrics, logs and controls for operations and management.
  • Team access and collaboration for application DevOps.
  • Onboarding and critical support for Meteor and Galaxy.

Today's launch focuses on providing commercial support to customers that need it, but MDG will also be providing individual access to the Galaxy platform in the near-term.

"We had a singular objective in launching Galaxy; we wanted to make our new service the best way to operate and scale Meteor apps for developers," said Matt DeBergalis, co-founder and VP of Product of Meteor. "Now with Galaxy, we can provide any developer with a great experience that doesn't force a team to learn, build, and maintain a sophisticated DevOps practice around their apps."

Shawn Young, Founder & CEO, Classcraft
"Using Galaxy, we've been able to offload part of our development overhead and get back to work on what we really care about, building our product! Galaxy is perfectly tuned for Meteor apps – it solved many of the ongoing challenges we had with our previous server stack: load balancing across sticky sessions, scaling processes, etc."

Tigran Sloyan, Co-Founder & CEO, CodeFights
"We built CodeFights using Meteor faster than we ever could have done with other frameworks. With the amount of growth we have seen after our launch last year, keeping the servers alive has been an uphill battle until Galaxy came along."

David Woody, Partner, Differential
"We've relied on Meteor to build amazing apps for our customers since its early days, and now we're excited to be able to deploy, operate and scale those apps on a platform specifically designed for that purpose. Meteor and Galaxy give us a complete platform for mobile and web app development."

Rick Wehrle, CTO, Work Here
"Galaxy reduces DevOps to a single command: meteor deploy."
