Bluetooth SIG Appoints ARM, Broadcom and Plantronics to Board of Directors


The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) today announced it is appointing representatives from ARM, Broadcom and Plantronics (News - Alert) to its Board of Directors. Fred Martin and Cary Bran will serve a two-year term, and Sid Shaw will serve a one-year term, all starting today.

"The Bluetooth SIG, with our 26,000-plus member companies and 18-year history, is uniquely poised to bring the tech industry together. Our staff, members and Board of Directors share the common goal of making wireless connectivity accessible to all companies and consumers," said Mark Powell, executive director of the Bluetooth SIG. "We look forward to working with our new board members and leveraging their expertise and valued perspectives as more and more companies turn to Bluetooth technology as the key catalyst in IoT innovation."

Fred Martin joined ARM (News - Alert) as part of its recent acquisition of Sunrise Micro Devices. He is currently the Vice President of Radio Technology for the wireless connectivity business unit, where his work focuses on Bluetooth® Smart technology. Fred is a senior member of the IEEE and is the inventor or co-inventor on 31 issued U.S. patents.

Sid Shaw is the Product Marketing Manager at Broadcom (News - Alert) focusing on embedded wireless and Internet of Things (IoT) business. Sid has over 15 years of experience with different technology assignments with expertise in wireless technology. He has been an active member of the Bluetooth SIG and contributor to the Bluetooth standard since 2005.

Cary Bran (News - Alert) is the Vice President of Innovation and New Ventures at Plantronics where he leads research and development for next-geeration software and device concepts, specifically around integration between wearable devices and the web. Cary has over 17 years of experience developing enterprise collaboration and communication software and has contributed to the IEFT and W3C (News - Alert) WebRTC standards development.
