Intralinks Appoints Global Privacy OfficerNEW YORK and LONDON, June 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Intralinks® Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:IL), a leading global provider of secure enterprise content collaboration solutions, today announces the appointment of Deema Freij to the new role of Global Privacy Officer, based in Intralinks' London office. Freij will oversee global data governance within the company and be responsible for further strengthening the company's worldwide focus on data privacy and the regulatory demands placed on its customers. The appointment highlights Intralinks' ongoing commitment to information governance and to its clients' data sovereignty requirements. As part of this focus, and as data privacy becomes a significant concern globally, Intralinks will continue to adopt best practice data privacy solutions – including applying for "Binding Corporate Rules" (BCRs). BCRs are generally regarded as the platinum standard for compliance with European data privacy requirements. They allow groups to transfer personal information internationally in compliance with European data privacy rules – widely considered to be the most rigorous data privacy laws in the world. "Deema's appointment will allow Intralinks, and its customers, to better respond to emerging demands from many countries to safeguard their citizens' data, enforce local law, and protect national security interests," said Ron Hovsepian, president and CEO of Intralinks. "Organizations need to partner with well-informed cloud providers which understand global regulations sector by sector, country by country. Without strategic cloud partnerships, in the coming years companies risk huge penalties." Commenting on Freij's appointment, Martin Fanning, a specialist Data Privacy Partner at Dentons, a leading international law firm, said: "Data privacy regulation is a top-table issue for all businesses in light of the draft General Data Protection Regulation in Europe and the growth of privacy laws globally. We will see this strong focus on data regulation continue in the coming years. It is encouraging to see cloud roviders, as data processors, educating businesses and demonstrating robust governance and information handling procedures. Deema's appointment is a further commitment by Intralinks to data privacy best practice." Freij brings almost two decades of experience in the legal profession. Prior to joining Intralinks in 2011 as Legal Counsel, EMEA & APAC, Freij spent seven years as a legal consultant. Before that, she served as legal counsel at European tech incubator and business accelerator GorillaPark, following two years as a solicitor at international commercial law firm Salans. Freij is a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) and has the IAPP certification, Foundation & CIPP/E. Intralinks has a longstanding commitment to data privacy. This includes an established data center in the UK with a second available in Germany later this year, providing European customers with the ability to physically locate sensitive documents within jurisdiction. Intralinks also offers clients its innovative customer-managed encryption key solution, giving data owners control over their own encrypted information. On the governance side, Intralinks is ISO 2700-1: 2013 certified, a specification that provides legal, physical and technical controls for information risk management and protection.
