BitPlay Launches First-ever Mobile Gaming Platform Where Players Compete To Win Bitcoin

BOSTON, April 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- BitPlay Today Inc., a startup that is first to provide a platform for mobile consumers to compete and win Bitcoin, formally launched the BitPlay Network today with Android versions of three games that are wildly popular with mobile consumers – Coin Crusher, Coin Flapper and Coin Flapper PRO.

BitPlay Today

The BitPlay Network is the industry's first platform to offer mobile games in formats players already know and love in a network where players compete with each other to win Bitcoin. The BitPlay Network offers competitive tournaments where players match up against three opponents selected by BitPlay, as well as in one-on-one, head-to-head challenges where players compete directly with their friends.

Depending on players' skills and levels of success in tournaments or challenges, they are instantly awarded Bitcoin in off-block-chain micro-transactions. At any time, a player can send his or her winnings to any Bitcoin wallet by simply entering, pasting or scanning a destination Bitcoin address and clicking the "Send" button -- initiating an immediate block chain transaction.

Coincident with the launch of the BitPlay Network, BitPlay has introduced three free native Android mobile game apps: Coin Crusher, and Coin Flapper, and Coin Flapper PRO.

  • Coin Crusher is a game where players are presented with a field of colorful jewels that they must reposition to score points by creating three-jewel combinations. In a 40-second flash round, players must score as many points as they can.
  • Coin Flapper is a game where players must navigate a flapping bird through randomly positioned pillars without colliding with them. A point is awarded for each pillar successfully navigated.

In both Coin Crusher and Coin Flapper, entry into tournaments and head-to-head challeges is 100 percent free. Players finishing in the top three positions of a tournament, or winning a head-to-head challenge, can win as much as 6 bits, depending on the game played and finishing position. Coin Crusher and Coin Flapper are available today in the Google Play app store.

Coin Flapper PRO plays the same way as Coin Flapper except in PRO tournaments players are asked to pay a small entry fee and are offered the opportunity to win larger amounts of Bitcoin as they compete. Deposits for entry fees are made by sending Bitcoin to an assigned player Bitcoin address and are immediately credited and available for use.

Coin Flapper PRO players can win up to 3,000 bits depending on their skill and where they place. Coin Flapper PRO also supports the same free tournaments and challenges available in Coin Flapper. Coin Flapper PRO is available for download and installation directly from BitPlay Today at http://bitplay.today/coin-flapper-pro.

Coin Crusher and Coin Flapper have been available in beta since late November 2014, with Coin Flapper PRO's open beta period beginning today.

BitPlay's CEO Christopher Hassett said the platform sees more than a million games played every week, with more than 200,000 micro-transactions processed each day for players who have won Bitcoin. Growth has come mainly through word of mouth. The games are actively being played by consumers around the world in Brazil, Mexico, Turkey, Russia and the United States.

"We are also the first and only mobile competitive gaming platform to use Bitcoin as its in-game currency," Hassett said. "Given the usage we've seen during our initial beta period alone, our two games are awarding more Bitcoin in more micro-transactions on a daily basis than any other mobile application in the world."

According to Newzoo, a video-game-research company, global mobile game revenues in 2015 are expected to surpass console game revenues for the first time and reach $30.3 billion worldwide. BitPlay addresses the largest portion of that market – the segment of mass-market consumers who are already familiar with the casual gaming formats that BitPlay is introducing competitively.

"As a company based upon the Bitcoin economy, we're using games to make it easier for mainstream consumers to acquire Bitcoin using the micro-transactions approach," added Hassett. "Micro-transactions, along with its global and certified transactional capabilities, are two core strengths of the Bitcoin technology that make the BitPlay Network a compelling and unique new gaming platform."

Hassett has extensive experience in casual gaming, including his role as president and chief operating officer of Uproar, Inc., a leading Internet-based casual gaming company he and his two partners took public on NASDAQ in 2000 and ultimately sold to Vivendi Universal. Under Hassett's management, Uproar serviced millions of active casual game players and achieved revenues in excess of $60 million annually.
