Toshiba Launches New-Generation Transistor Arrays

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC)*, a committed leader that collaborates with technology companies to create breakthrough designs, today launched a new generation of highly power efficient transistor arrays that feature a double-diffused MOSFET (DMOS FET) type output driver. The new TBD62xxxA series succeeds the company's TD62xxxA series of bipolar transistor arrays, which have found wide use in such applications as motors, relays and LED drives.

Toshiba has redesigned its complete line of transistor array products, from bipolar transistors to DMOS FET output drivers, in order to achieve the high efficiency needed for general power-intensive industrial applications. Unlike the previous-generation products, these drivers do not require base current biasing, virtually eliminating the input current, and they can handle high current density per device area with relatively low on-resistance. Reducing the on-resistance, in turn, enables output voltage drop for the new products to be lower than for the TD62xxxA series.

"Utilizing DMOS FET drivers allows the new transistor array to employ the latest BiCD technology, a process technology that facilitates integration of bipolar, CMOS and DMOS devices," said Deepak Mithani, senior director, Mixed-Signal Business Unit, System LSI Group at TAEC. "Toshiba views the latest BiCD process as the future mainstream for analog ICs fabricated on our standard 8-inch manufacturing line – the wafer size widely used in mass production – ensuring cost-optimized products for our customers."

The new DMOS FET arrays feature high-voltage, high-current drives with a maximum output block rating of 50V/0.5A, and each individual series is compliant with the VIN(ON) standard according to the appropriate input stage of the circuits. The products are available in a range of packages to suit various needs; these include user-friendly dual-inline package (DIP), surface-mounted small outline package (SOP/SOL), and space-saving small SSOP (0.65mm pitch).

The first release of the TBD62xxxA arrays will include 24 products differentiated by channel count, sink or source current capability, and power requirements. These include the TBD62003A and TBD62004A series (7-ch outputs); the TBD62083A and TBD62084A series (8-ch outputs), which are suited to drive the inductive load of motors and relays by incorporating common diodes; and the TBD62502A and TBD62503A series (7-ch outputs), for driving LED and level shift circuits. Applications for the products include home appliances, industrial equipment (e.g., vending machines, ATMs and office automation systems) and amusement equipment.

Availability

Mass production across the full lineup of TBD62xxxA arrays is scheduled for June through September 2015.
