Kolibree Announces That Its Application Program Interface is Open to Third-Party Developers

Kolibree, the global pioneer of the connected electric toothbrush, is announcing this week that it is opening its beta version application program interface (API) and its software development kit (SDK) to third-party developers. Through interactive, educational and fun experiences, these tools will enable the development of new applications that will encourage the brushing of teeth and that will help prevent oral diseases. Opened only to selected developers at first, others wishing to join this open development program will gain access at a later date. Of course, developers will need to ensure that they comply with the basic rules that define the proper brushing of teeth when creating their applications. Kolibree is, once again, confirming its desire to build an ecosystem around its connected toothbrush. The application program interface and software development kit will make it possible, in the near future, to enrich the catalog of applications that are available for and compatible with the toothbrush on iOS and Android (News - Alert).

Currently, the Kolibree application offers three activities when brushing:

  • On iOS and Android: 'Go! Pirate' is a game that helps parents motivate their children to brush their teeth for two minutes twice a day. It is about using the toothbrush to control a small pirate who runs along a pontoon. The toothbrush acts as a video gam joystick as the child brushes their teeth. They have to follow the area that needs to be brushed and, in the time required, grab and collect the coins. At the end of brushing, a bounty will develop in the game and the general family ranking in the application will also evolve.
  • On iOS: 'Kolibree Lite' is an activity designed for general users and takes the form of a brushing coach to provide guidance on which areas to brush. You have to follow precise timing so that all teeth can be brushed properly by the end of brushing.
  • On Android: 'Kolibree Coach' is an even more successful activity. Thanks to sensors in the toothbrush, it detects brushed areas in the mouth in order to indicate to the user if each area has been correctly brushed for the necessary amount of time. This application is expected to be made available on iOS very soon.

With its API and SDK, Kolibree is confirming its progress. Using the latest technological advancements, and thanks to its integrated 3D motion sensors, the company was the first to innovate in the field of connected electric toothbrushes in the service of prevention. In the very near future, users will be able to choose new, playful applications that will be compatible with their Kolibree connected toothbrushes. They will have many ways to look after their oral health.

The Kolibree connected electric toothbrush will go on sale in the United States in March, and then in Europe in April. It will be available for €199.
