UnaliWear's Wearable For Seniors Extends Independence With Advanced Technology

AUSTIN, Texas, March 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- UnaliWear announces the market preview of its first wearable technology that provides advanced support for seniors that guards against wandering and provides support for falls and medication reminders.

The UnaliWear Kanega watch extends independence with dignity.

The new wearable – the Kanega watch (http://www.UnaliWear.com) – is also the first of its kind to use an easy speech interface rather than buttons, use cellular and Wi-Fi technology, and update medical information without human input.

The watch goes wherever the wearer goes 24/7, and unlike a Samsung Gear or an Apple Watch, it has its own technology so no smartphone or home-based system is needed. This design helps a senior live an active lifestyle and not be trapped at home.

"What really makes the Kanega watch different is that there's no smart phone required. It features a classical watch style without buttons, so there's no stigma from wearing an assistive device, and it seaks to you. It helps extend a person's independence with dignity," said Jean Anne Booth, UnaliWear CEO.

Booth (http://www.unaliwear.com/about-unaliwear/) is a serial entrepreneur with a successful track record in innovation. Her two previous startups sold to Apple and Texas Instruments. UnaliWear is her third venture as a founder and was recently released on Kickstarter (bit.ly/Unali-KS-URL) for market feedback. UnaliWear is investor-backed.

Kanega's technology helps prevent the wearer from getting lost while driving or walking. It also makes a connection with pharmacies to automatically bring medication updates into the watch nightly.

It features a continuous welfare check and fall detection. During an accident or medical emergency that leaves the wearer unable to move or speak, the watch notifies the monitoring operators for help.

Booth designed the watch after her active mother turned 80. Her mother did not want to wear an assistive device that was ugly, stigmatizing and kept her tethered to her home. Her mother is also stylish so the watch is discreet and classically designed. It can also be worn with customizable wristbands and display interfaces.

The UnaliWear Kanega watch is derived from "Unalii," the Cherokee word for "friend," and "Kanega," for "speak." The watch is a friend that travels with and speaks to you.
