Media Alert: Numenta's Subutai Ahmad to Speak on a New Paradigm for Streaming Data Analytics at Strata + Hadoop World

Numenta Inc., a leader in machine intelligence technology, today announced that Subutai Ahmad, its VP of Research, will be among speakers at Strata + Hadoop World in San Jose, CA (News - Alert) on Friday, Feb. 20.

Ahmad will speak on "Streaming Analytics: It's Not the Same Game" in the Machine Data and IoT program track of the event, presented by O'Reilly Media in partnership with Cloudera. The conference, being held locally Feb. 17-20, is one of the world's largest events for the data industry devoted to cutting-edge science, emerging technologies and new business fundamentals.

"The existing big data paradigm requires storing data for batch analysis, and extensive modeling by a human expert, prior to deployment. This is incredibly inefficient and cannot scale in a world where every server, every building, and every device generates a continuous stream of information, that is ever changing and potentially valuable," said Ahmad.

In his talk, Ahmad will focus on a new paradigm for streaming data algorithms, based on recent neuroscience indings and on the computational properties of the neocortex. This paradigm supports systems that are highly automated, adapt to changing statistics, and naturally deal with temporal data streams.

These are core ideas that have been implemented in Numenta's open source project, called NuPIC, and have been validated in its commercial applications.

About Numenta:

Numenta, Inc., was founded in 2005 to lead a new era of machine intelligence. Its biologically inspired machine learning technology is based on a theory of the neocortex first described in co-founder Jeff Hawkins' book, On Intelligence. The technology can be applied to anomaly detection in servers and applications, human behavior, and geo-spatial tracking data, and to the predication and classification of natural language. In addition, Numenta has created NuPIC (Numenta Platform for Intelligent Computing) as an open source project. Based in Redwood City, CA, the company is privately funded.
