Oracle Delivers Increased Session Capacity with New Acme Packet 4600 Midrange Session Border Controller Platform

New system more than doubles the session capacity of previous-generation midrange solutions REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. – Dec. 9, 2014 News Summary The increasing demand for services and applications, such as Voice over LTE (VoLTE), Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) trunking, and Voice over IP (VoIP) interconnect, requires a session border controller capable of sophisticated mediation and management of IP multimedia traffic. Oracle’s Acme Packet 4600 midrange network platform delivers best-in-class performance and configuration capabilities with its tightly integrated encryption and transcoding in a single network module. This provides communications service providers (CSPs) with a cost-effective and scalable solution for delivering their next-generation services.

News Facts •Oracle today announced the release of the Acme Packet 4600—the newest member of its market-leading session border controller (SBC) platform family. Acme Packet 4600 delivers a comprehensive and powerful range of network traffic controls for new, sophisticated communications services like VoLTE, Rich Communication Services (RCS), and high-definition video calling.

•The new network platform delivers two to four times the capacity of previous-generation midrange systems. It also offers the same software, high availability, and manageability inherent in the Acme Packet platform family, enabling CSPs to implement it without disruption while reducing capital and operational costs.

•With Acme Packet 4600’s unique combination of modularity and configuration flexibility, CSPs can seamlessly integrate new services and capabilities into their networks—all while continuing to operate within their current network infrastructure.

•The new solution is highly cost-effective, combining advanced capabilities such as encryption and transcoding, as well as 1 gigabit Ethernet (GbE) and 10 GbE interfaces, in a single network interface unit (NIU), significantly reducing rack space and energy consumption, driving cost savings.

•Oracle is a leader in the communications platform market, built upon the proven Acme Packet operating software. Acme Packet 4600 is designed to leverage this same technology, providing CSPs with the manageability and reliability they have come to expect from Oracle.

Product Details Acme Packet 4600: •Supports up to 80,000 signaled sessions and up to 32,000 simultaneous anchored media sessions •Provides IP security capacity of up to 500,000 security associations with IP Multimedia Subsystem Authentication and Key Agreement •Integrates transcoding, encryption, and quality of service (QoS) measurements in a single NIU •Offers carrier-grade high-availability and network equipment-building system compliance in a 1 rack-unit form factor •Manages increasing numbers of protocols and compression technologies at interconnect borders Supporting Quotes •“The increased deployment of services like VoLTE, HD video calling, and RCS have become strong drivers for service provider SBCs,” said Diane Myers, principal analyst, Infonetics Research. “Acme Packet 4600 gives service providers an effective way to expand their network capacity and increase their service offerings.” •“Acme Packet 4600 provides a unique combination of modularity and configuration flexibility and enables CSPs to continue operating their current network infrastructure without disruption, while seamlessly integrating new services and capabilities,” said Bhaskar Gorti, senior vice president and general manager, Oracle Communications. “SBCs of this size and type will help both small and large service providers improve quality of experience and reliability, enhance security in new services, and comply with growing government regulations designed to protect consumer interests.” Supporting Resources •Oracle Communications •Acme Packet 3820 •Acme Packet 4600 •Acme Packet 6000 Series •Oracle Communications Session Border Controller •Oracle Communications Session Router •Connect with Oracle Communications on Diigo, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and YouTube About Oracle Oracle engineers hardware and software to work together in the cloud and in your data center.
