Return Path Acquires E-Commerce Data Analysis Firm, Adds Data and Digital Veteran to Executive Team

NEW YORK --(Business Wire)--

Return Path today announced the acquisition of Motley Bunch Inc., developer of technology to parse unstructured email data, to support the company's continued investment in its capacity to analyze consumer shopping behavior and commercial relationships. Motley Bunch will help Return Path to deepen its existing marketing intelligence solutions while creating new ways to generate insight from consumer data, helping companies to make more informed decisions, better understand their customers, and accurately assess their competitive situations.

Return Path also announced that Eric Weinberg has joined the company as chief operating officer. Weinberg's experience includes leading the entertainment division of global information and measurement company Nielsen, and serving most recently as chief operating officer for digital ad platform Collective. In addition to companywide operational oversight, Weinberg will direct the development and go to market strategy for Return Path's consumer informatin offerings.

"As Return Path invests in growing our marketing intelligence solutions, adding Motley Bunch's parsing technology and Eric Weinberg's leadership immediately accelerates our development. Their contributions are already providing clients with actionable insights that increase their marketing revenue and strengthen customer relationships," said Matt Blumberg, CEO of Return Path. "Generating competitive and consumer insight represents a new application of email data to inform a wide range of spending decisions, but it's really just another dimension of the approach Return Path has always taken to solve big problems for leading brands."

Motley Bunch was founded in 2012 to transform anonymized transactional email data into behavioral and trend insight, while powering apps that help consumers manage their online purchases. The company has so far analyzed more than $13 billion in ecommerce transactions.

"Joining Return Path is an ideal situation for Motley Bunch because it unleashes our potential to grow," said Aditya Arora, CEO of Motley Bunch. "With Return Path's analytical expertise and global industry relationships, we can help businesses around the world to discover buying preferences and purchase behavior they cannot see today. Moreover our clients can apply that knowledge beyond their customer bases to track competitive and marketwide trends."

Motley Bunch will relocate all employees to Return Path's Sunnyvale, CA (News - Alert) offices, and will be integrated into the company's global data operations team.

"Return Path has developed the capacity to overcome one of the biggest blind spots in the consumer research world, and the opportunity to lead that effort was absolutely one of the reasons I wanted to join," said Weinberg. "The company is poised to expand in multiple directions as a data and marketing leader, but its position at the center of the email ecosystem is ideal for the development of business and competitive intelligence. As more and more consumer activity is captured in the inbox, no company is better placed to turn that information into actionable insight."
