Cybersecurity Industry Veterans Joe St Sauver and Ben April Join Farsight Security Team

SAN MATEO, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

Today Farsight Security, Inc. announced that cybersecurity industry veterans Joe St Sauver and Ben April have joined the company. Mr. St Sauver will serve as Distributed System Scientist and Mr. April has been named Director of Engineering.

"Farsight has been a talent-magnet since before we incorporated it," said Dr. Paul Vixie, founder and CEO for Farsight Security, Inc. "I feel incredibly honored to be surrounded by this team -- both on the technical and business sides -- and to have received indications of interest from others of the same caliber. With our growth in staff, in products, and in customers, the only limit Farsight faces is me getting enough sleep to keep it all organized. We're riding a rocket here."

Prior to joining Farsight, Mr. St Sauver worked at the University of Oregon for the Computing Center/Information Services and Internet2/InCommon, where he was Internet2's Nationwide Security Programs Manager. He also holds positions with key industry organizations including M3AAWG, OTA, CAUCE, BITAG, REN-ISAC, and NSRC.

"I'm a big believer in data-driven collaborative security and Farsight epitomizes the data-driven approach we need today to tackle -- and overcome -- the latest Internet-scale threats. It's an honor and a privilege to join Farsight's high caliber team," said Mr. St Sauver.

Prior to joining Farsight, Mr. April worked for eight years at Trend Micro, where he became the Americas regional manager of the Forward-Looking Threat Research team focused on research and development of bleeding-edge systems and technologies for the detection, mitigation and analysis of computer and Internet security threats.

"I joined Farsight Security because I saw a company with the DNA and an approach that I think will change the cost model of cybercrime. The Internet was built to support massive flows of information. Farsight is uniquely positioned with the right team and technology to leverage those inherent traits of Internet architecture for the betterment of the Internet as a whole," said Mr. April.

In addition to these important new hires, through expanded Passive DNS sensor deployments, Farsight Security has achieved the following breakthrough company milestones:

  • Additional data sources in Russia and Central Asia and new sensor deployments across social networks, financial services, and governmental institutions
  • More than 12 billion Passive DNS observations per day
  • Over 7 billion unique domain names catalogued in our historical Passive DNS Database DNSDB™ -- the most robust database of its kind
  • Expansion of our markets into financial services, high-tech, U.S. and foreign government, industrial, defense, and casino gaming vertical markets

Increasingly, incident response teams, threat analysts, and security researchers are turning to Farsight's industry-leading Passive DNS data solutions to add critical contextual data to their threat intelligence programs. With the added perspective that Farsight's data offers, they are able to greatly reduce false positives, to amplify and accelerate the detection of new threats by identifying known associates, and to successfully mitigate and improve the prediction of impending cyber threats.
