More Cloud Desktops, No Corporate Servers, and BYOD to Work is Future of IT Predicts Atlanta Entrepreneur

ATLANTA --(Business Wire)--

The future of business is cloud computing, virtual desktops, data mined from the Internet, and employees bringing their own devices (BYOD) to work, predicts Dr. Steven Vicinanza, CEO of BlueWave Computing, the Southeast's largest managed IT services provider for small and mid-sized businesses.

"By 2020, only one in four businesses will maintain their own servers, and at most companies, employees will need to bring their own devices to work (BYOD), instead of using company-supplied phones or computers," said Dr. Vicinanza in a presentation on the future of IT givenat Art of IT, an annual BlueWave client event.

He also predicts that businesses of all sizes will become more customer-intimate, anticipating their customers' needs before they even know what they need. "Businesses can do this because IT can track and literally measure everything," he said. "Data is a byproduct of technology, and companies will need to mine and use that data to identify and target their audiences."

Dr. Vicinanza, an Atlanta pioneer in cloud computing, sees the cloud's influence to be even greater by 2020. "The trend is for more businesses to run off the cloud because it allows anywhere access, has built-in disaster recovery and limitless scalability, does not require big up-front purchases, and offers greater security than storing data on a local server or computer," he said.

Agreeing with Dr. Vicinanza is Dan Timko, President of Cirrity, a BlueWave partner company specializing in cloud services who also participated in the Art of IT event. Timko said that many businesses will make the move to cloud-based desktops by 2020. "Today's office PC is evolving into the virtual desktop," he said, "because a cloud-based desktop is device and location independent, has global reach, and comes at a lower total cost of ownership."
