52 Speakers Participate in 10 Keynotes, 42 Sessions During MakerCon, New York

(Marketwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) SEBASTOPOL, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 08/25/14 -- MakerCon in New York, September 17-18, prior to World Maker Faire, is shaping up to be an event best measured by the depth and breadth of content, from speakers to product announcements: 52 speakers; 10 keynotes; 42 sessions; 4 tracks; 6 major product announcements, and 20 startups. Leaders at the forefront of the maker movement will come together at the New York Hall of Science (NYSCI) to share ideas and new insights into local and global manufacturing, design, workforce development, education and creative culture.

Presented by Cornell University College of Engineering, MakerCon is the "big tent," providing valuable and practical insights into the impact of makers and making across diverse areas, from education and community, to the economy and emerging markets. Technology providers join community leaders and local government agencies supporting the growth of maker culture and businesses in their cities.

"At its core, MakerCon is a shared conversation among the key constituents driving the growth of the maker movement, whether they are organizing makerspaces, hosting Maker Camp, incubating startup companies, or designing curricula and programs at higher education institutions," said Dale Dougherty, CEO and founder of Maker Media, publisher and founder of Make: magazine and co-founder of Maker Faire. "These diverse individuals have a common agenda: to derive the enormous benefits of maker culture: from collaboration and community, to open source technology and prototyping platforms, to project-based learning, and social entrepreneurship. The cumulative effect of this is the foundation for an emerging maker city." The New York City Economic Development Corporation is a featured presentation on day two of the event. Miquela Craytor, director of NYC Industrial and Income Mobility Initiatives for NYCEDC will showcase the successful programs and businesses that have lead to revitalizing areas and providing new opportunities for makers, such as Manufacture NY, reFactory and the Navy Shipyard project.

Erik de Bruijn, CEO of 3D printer manufacturer, Ultimaker, joins the lineup of speakers including Yancey Strickler, CEO of Kickstarter, who will open the conference, and Brian Krzanich, CEO of Intel, who will deliver the closing keynote. Other featured speakers include Massimo Banzi, co-founder of the Arduino Project; Dr. David R. Schneider, Cornell Engineering, founder of the Cornell Cup USA presented by Intel; Tim McNulty; VP of government affairs at Carnegie Mellon; and Jose Gomez-Marquez, principal medical device designer, Little Devices lab at MIT.
