NCP engineering Granted Patent for Technology That Improves Remote Access ConnectionsMOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- NCP engineering today announced that it has been awarded a patent for Path Finder, a technology that enables remote access VPN connectivity on unknown networks with restricted access settings, e.g. hotels and public hotspots. U.S. Patent 8811397, "System and Method for Data Communication Between a User Terminal and a Gateway (News - Alert) via a Network Node", recognizes NCP's proprietary technology, invented by Andreas Baehre, Head of Research and Development of NCP engineering, that detects whether firewall settings prevent a connection to an enterprise's VPN gateway. If a network environment blocks native IPsec communication, e.g. only HTTP and HTTPS traffic is permitted by the firewall, the NCP VPN client automatically utilizes Path Finder mode to emulate HTTPS on the outside of the VPN tunnel. This enables the VPN client to establish a secure, encrypted tunnel to the corporate network's VPN gateway via the HTTPS port, while maintaining robust IPsec security policies on the inside.
