GSA Public Building Service Modernizing Federal Procurement With Appian BPM

(Marketwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) RESTON, VA -- (Marketwired) -- 08/18/14 -- Appian, the market leader in modern business process management (BPM) and Case Management software, today announced a new application deployment within the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA). GSA Public Building Service (PBS) has deployed a modern and flexible Procurement Request Module (PRM) application on Appian's Work Platform. GSA already has numerous applications running on the Appian platform, including GSA PBS' G-REX "Smart Leasing" solution, and the GSA Federal Acquisition Service (FAS) Acquisition Planning Wizard solution. The new application, like the G-REX solution, was developed and deployed by Appian partner Incentive Technology Group (ITG).

The PRM application is the first milestone in a larger vision to transform procurement processes across GSA PBS. The complete system, called "Electronic Acquisition System Integrated" (EASi), will accelerate and modernize the end-to-end procurement process, from initial request through solicitations and contract writing, administration and close-out. GSA PBS is "the landlord to the Federal civilian government," acquiring and providing oversight for federal properties across the United States. Since the application's initial deployment on May 1st, the system has processed 164 procurement requests across GSA PBS covering a wide range of projects.

"PRM serves as a landmark achievement in continuous efforts to improve procurement efficiency and accountability," said Chris O'Connell, Vice President of Federal Sales at Appian. "This requires a modern technology platform that automates non-value-add processes and gives decision makers fast access to the data they need while enforcing policies and procedures." Through a simple social interface, the PRM application enables smarter decisions and faster action for internal and external PBS users in the request, review, approval and initiation of goods and services procurement. The application leverages Appian Records' enterprise-wide data management capabilities, as data integration is central to GSA PBS' vision for improved procurement case management. Each request becomes its own Record, providing a consolidated view of relevant data from numerous enterprise systems, and a single place from which to take action on the request at any time for all users, including all related documentation and collaborations. Overtime, procurement Records will also be a source for meaningful data analysis to drive further procurement business improvement. PRM is integrated with GSA FAS' Appian-based Acquisition Planning Wizard.

The Appian BPM Suite is a modern Work Platform that empowers all employees in an organization to make smart and efficient decisions, and take rapid business action. Appian discovers and unites enterprise data, connects users through social and collaborative engagement in the context of business data, and provides the leading BPM platform to execute business processes, enforce rules, and ensure all actions taken by users are in accordance with corporate policies and procedures. Appian delivers its full suite capabilities on-premise and in the cloud, on the desktop and natively on all major mobile device platforms.

"The PRM solution is the latest example of GSA PBS' commitment to driving innovation in how IT can support the agency's mission," said Matt Calkins, President and CEO at Appian. "As the latest in the GSA's list of Appian deployments, it is also a testament to the value of unifying multiple applications, data sources and user groups under a common interface. This is the snowball effect of our Work Platform."
