zSpace and NGRAIN Partner to Develop Virtual Reality DICOM Viewer for Immersive Medical Visualization

(Marketwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) VANCOUVER, BC -- (Marketwired) -- 08/12/14 -- Today at SIGGRAPH 2014, zSpace, Inc.®, a technology provider that delivers a new way of learning through immersive exploration, and NGRAIN®, a provider of 3D augmented and virtual reality technologies that power the critical applications in the enterprise, announced that the Companies have partnered to provide an advanced, interactive medical solution for visualizing medical images.

Using zSpace's virtual reality platform and NGRAIN's DICOM Viewer, data from DICOM files of any modality, such as X-Ray angiogram, ultrasound, CT, MRI, Nuclear are generated into virtual 3D reconstructions, which allow doctors to analyze patient data sets in real-time while gaining a deeper understanding of health problems within a lifelike environment.

NGRAIN's interactive 3D software combined with zSpace's head and stylus tracking capabilities will enable clinicians to view virtual patient data in open space, as well as rotate, dissect, and manipulate it as if it was in their hand -- something not currently possible in traditional medical imaging.

"We are very proud to offer the first readily accessible immersive 3D stereoscopic viewer for the healthcare market," said Gabe Batstone, CEO of NGRAIN. "The smooth integration of NGRAIN's versatile 3D platform with zSpace's advanced immersive system shows the great benefits that accessible, interactive 3D can bring to healthcare and other industries where visual analytics are essential." "We are excited to partner with NGRAIN to empower medical researchers with powerful 3D visualization tools for the healthcare industry," said Paul Kellenberger, CEO of zSpace. "Using this technology, doctors are able to give patients a truly immersive, real-time analysis, which is critical to healthcare." NGRAIN will demonstrate the collaboration with zSpace at SIGGRAPH 2014 in NGRAIN booth 524 and zSpace booth 548, taking place August 12 - 14 in Vancouver, BC.

SIGGRAPH is widely recognized as the most prestigious forum for the publication of computer graphics research. In addition to SIGGRAPH's leading-edge technical program, the conference's installations provide close-up views of the latest in digital art, emerging technologies, and hands-on opportunities for creative collaboration.
