Elder Construction Lays Foundation for Future Expansion with Comcast Business

DENVER --(Business Wire)--

Comcast Business today announced that Elder Construction, a family-owned commercial general contracting company, is using Comcast's (News - Alert) Business Internet and Business VoiceEdge™ services at its offices in Colorado Springs and Windsor. As part of an IT strategy to host the company's data and applications in the cloud, the Comcast Business services are helping to improve internal efficiency, customer service and communication between employees in its offices in northern and southern Colorado.

Elder Construction was founded in 1994 by Tom Elder in Colorado Springs, Colorado to provide construction management, design, build, general contracting and other commercial construction services. In that time, the company has completed projects across a wide variety of industries, including dental, education, healthcare, government, retail, hospitality and entertainment, among others. In 2010, Elder's two sons opened a second office in Windsor, Colorado, scaling the company's geographic reach and ability to build projects throughout the state. Since opening the new location, the team found that their previous telephone service was not able to support the direct communication needed between offices and its mobile employees that are on-site managing customers' projects. In addition, as the company migrated all of its IT operations to the cloud, Internet access became critical to the company's success.

"With all of our data and applications housed in the cloud, we can't afford to deal with an unreliable Internet connection," said Chris Elder, vice president of Elder Construction. "The services that we have from Comcast Business give us the peace of mind tht we'll have access to our data in the cloud and to coworkers at the other offices when we need it. With Business VoiceEdge, communication between our offices is more seamless than ever, allowing us to manage client needs more effectively. Having both of those needs fulfilled by the same provider simplifies things even further and limits the time I need to spend managing relationships with vendors."

Elder Construction has replaced its legacy phone system with Comcast's Business VoiceEdge, a cloud-based, unified communications service that provides a consistent telephone experience across both offices and innovative features that help boost productivity, such as a mobile app and voicemails that can be emailed to a user. The company is also using Comcast Business Internet connections at up to 50 Mbps at their two offices for communicating with customers, accessing the Internet and reaching the company's data and applications at a remote data center.

"While many companies understand the need to expand operations in order to foster continued growth and tap into business opportunities present in other markets, many underestimate the growing pains associated with expansion and the changes that need to be made in order to remain successful," said Shawn Adamson, regional vice president for Comcast Business. "By moving their network to the cloud and adopting a cloud-based unified communications system, Elder Construction is not only able to maintain efficiency between employees in both offices, but also to present a single, unified entity with which existing clients and prospective customers can interact. Moreover, the fact that our services are highly scalable provides room for the company to grow and expand even further."

Comcast Business conducted a LinkedIn (News - Alert) poll regarding Unified Communications (UC) earlier this year, and from the responses of 633 professionals, 32 percent considered mobility features to be the most important feature when evaluating a UC voice solution, while 26 percent focused on ease of call management. Another 17 percent see Business voice continuity as being most important, while 22 percent were more concerned with scalability.
