Blue Coat Protects Customers From Heartbleed Exploits

(Marketwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) SUNNYVALE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 04/30/14 -- Blue Coat Systems, Inc., the market leader in business assurance technology, today announced that its SSL Visibility Appliance delivers automatic protection against attacks exploiting the Heartbleed vulnerability. By automatically detecting, blocking and logging attempted Heartbleed attacks, the SSL Visibility Appliance provides enterprises with the security assurance they require.

Discovered in early April, the Heartbleed vulnerability affects servers and devices, including laptops, smartphones and tablets, running vulnerable versions of the OpenSSL software. While many leading websites have patched the vulnerability in their servers, others are still exposed. In addition, many networking and security products, including client devices, do not yet have patches, or enterprises have not yet been able to patch all vulnerabilities.

With so many products and devices vulnerable, eliminating the risk to the business will likely take longer than originally believed, which means enterprises need a way to identify and block Heartbleed exploits while client devices and network equipment remain vulnerable.

Traditional perimeter security products lack visibility into SSL traffic, limiting their ability to block an encrypted attack before it steals data stored in memory. The Blue Coat SSL Visibility appliance can automatically intercept encrypted attacks before they reach the vulnerable server, system or device, providing enterprises with the protection they need until the vulnerabilities have been completely patched.

"The Heartbleed vulnerability impacts so much of the equipment and devices businesses and employees use on a daily basis, and that prevalence makes this a long-term risk for enterprises," said Steve Schoenfeld, Blue Coat senior vice president of products. "With the SSL Visibility Appliance, enterprises can automatically secure their networks and devices against attempts to exploit the vulnerability, allowing them to focus on leveraging the best technologies available to drive their business forward." The SSL Visibility Appliance is part of the Blue Coat Advanced Threat Protection Lifecycle Defense, which fortifies the network by bridging the gap between day-to-day security operations and incident response. With protection against known threats as well as the ability to detect, analyze and remediate unknown threats or threats already on the network, the Lifecycle Defense provides comprehensive protection against advanced attacks.
