Sentinel Raises $12MM to Build Next Generation of Security Infrastructure
PALO ALTO, Calif. --(Business Wire)--
Sentinel Labs, a leading cyber-security firm focused on multi-device
endpoint and server advanced threat protection, has raised $12 million
in its Series A financing. Tiger Global led the round with full
participation from existing investors Accel Partners, Data Collective
(DCVC), and Granite Hill Capital Partners, alongside new investor The
The funding will be used to expand Sentinel's offering, and for
launching a complete Next Generation Endpoint Protection suite, built on
Sentinel's next generation predictive execution modeling engine, to
compete with the traditional antivirus vendors, by year's end.
"The age of the antivirus is over. The endpoint world is ripe for
disruption in light of the ineffectiveness of current antivirus
technology and limited visibility of network based products," said Tomer
Weingarten, CEO of Sentinel Labs. "We've championed the idea of endpoint
being the last line of defense against threats; now we're going to take
that initial concept and tackle the antivirus itself, an industry that
hasn't changed in ten years despite ever growing threats."
Sentinel protects workstations, mobile devices and servers across an
organization from advanced threats. With its patent-pending real-time
host-based technology, Sentinel is the only company to currently offer
protection on all major platforms including Windows, Mac OSX and
Android (News - Alert), from all vectors of attacks. The company is also currently
developing agents for iOS and Linux which will be launched within 60
days. Using its proprietary predictive execution modeling engine,
Sentinel is able to stop attacks even if they are unknown, or brand ne,
by predicting the attack patterns, instead of relying on file signatures
or static indicators of compromise. The company is working today with a
number of Fortune 500 companies, helping them to stop attacks that
current network-based and host-based behavioral systems fail to catch.
"I believe that Sentinel represents the future of APT (News - Alert) detection," said
Yahoo CISO Alex Stamos. "Targets of APTs that have deployed the leading
centralized solutionsare starting to deal with their serious
downsides.Sentinel solves these problems by running on the targeted
host anddetecting successful compromise. I can strongly recommend that
anycompany facing nation-state and other advanced threats give Sentinel
Mike Kail, VP of IT Operations at Netflix said, "Signature-based
endpoint security solutions were never a great solution, and the
convergence of Cloud, Consumerization, and Always-Mobile means that
endpoint protection is more important than ever." Mr. Kail continued,
"Sentinel's unique, light-weight agent-based solution, combined with the
management console and global threat feed, is the solution that we've
been waiting for."
Chief Trust Officer at Box (News - Alert), former CISO at Symantec and Sentinel advisor
Justin Somaini commented, "With the onslaught of malicious actors
deploying advanced malware and the limitations of existing antivirus
software, Sentinel is providing a critical solution to this problem. A
solution that will benefit the entire industry."
Sentinel's approach to detecting intent results in significant CPU and
memory efficiency. Sentinel's technology typically runs with fractions
of a percent of overall CPU and memory footprint on every device in an
enterprise environment, from deep in its datacenters, to its employees'
or customers' homes; and from Internet of Things endpoints to ATMs to
critical infrastructure platforms for energy and water delivery.
The Sentinel team is comprised of security experts hailing from Intel,
McAfee (News - Alert), Checkpoint, and elite units in the Israel Defense Forces, with
multiple decades of collective experience in detecting and defeating
nation-state level malware.
About Sentinel Labs:
Sentinel offers true behavioral on-machine protection in real time. We
don't inspect files or websites, we detect suspicious intent from
incipient attacks, in real time as they happen and stop them before they
do damage - right on your device. Sentinel currently offers real time,
predictive execution modeling detection, and full protection from
targeted, zero day threats. Founded by cyber security experts, Sentinel
provides next generation endpoint protection across all your devices and
platforms. Sentinel previously raised a $2.5M seed round from investors
including Accel Partners, Data Collective (DCVC), Dan Scheinman, Granite
Hill Capital Partners and UpWest Labs. Sentinel is based in Palo Alto (News - Alert),
California and Tel Aviv. Learn more at sentinel-labs.com or follow us at @SentinelSec.
