NetFort Introduces Release V12.0.7 to Help Organisations Tackle Heartbleed

(Marketwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) GALWAY, IRELAND -- (Marketwired) -- 04/11/14 -- NetFort Technologies, a leading developer of innovative software for monitoring activity on computer networks, today announced the availability of LANGuardian version 12.0.7 to specifically help organisations mitigate the risks associated with Heartbleed.

Heartbleed is a critical flaw in OpenSSL. OpenSSL is the open-source encryption standard used by the majority of websites to provide a secure connection between the service and the user. The module in OpenSSL that allows open connections to be reused (or 'keep-alive') contains a security hole that, if exploited maliciously, could allow attackers to repeatedly access 64K of memory.

NetFort has released LANGuardian V12.0.7 in order to immediately assist organisations that are currently investigating and troubleshooting Heartbleed.

Using the built-in Deep Packet Inspection engine that includes CBAR (Content Based Application Recognition) and a special decoder for the SSL protocol, the new release of LANGuardian includes the following enhancements to help troubleshoot Heartbleed: LANGuardian detects all active SSL/TLS servers that have the Heartbleed extension enabled. This can be used to compile an inventory for further examination. LANGuardian detects exploit attempts based on the Heartbleed vulnerability. This can be used to uncover someone who is trying to compromise your servers.

"This is one of the major advantages of passive Deeper Traffic Analysis systems like LANGuardian," stated John Brosnan, CEO of NetFort. "They can be easily deployed on any network, configured to monitor traffic from multiple internal locations or VLANs, and in the case of flaws like Heartbleed they can analyse the packet contents, not just the headers, to provide tremendous visibility and insight."
