Cortina Systems and Superxon Deliver Industry's First Dual-Mode GPON/EPON SFP ONU

(Cortina®), delivering innovative technologies that link people and networks worldwide, today announced that the Cortina CS8232, GPON/EPON ONU System on a Chip (SoC), is designed into the Superxon Technology Ltd. SFP ONU, the industry's first dual-mode xPON transceiver. By incorporating both GPON and EPON into the Cortina® CS8232 ONU SoC and offering a hardware and software universal turnkey solution, Cortina enables operators to quickly migrate existing equipment to PON networks, which are more scalable and efficient in adding subscribers. Superxon, a leading global supplier of optical transceivers, combines the CS8232 ONU SoC, with its high-performance and cost-effective optical components, into a pluggable SFP module, offering system vendors unprecedented flexibility in their FTTx equipment design.

The dual-mode SFP ONU "stick," compliant to the SFP MSA standard form factor, encloses the low-power, industrial temperature grade CS8232 ONU SoC along with flash memory and optics. The field-proven, software stack supports autosensing of EPON or GPON mode, and can immediately interoperate with any commercial OLT in the market. Samples are currently available from Superxon.
