Tripwire Debuts Tripwire® SecureScan™
SAN FRANCISCO --(Business Wire)--
RSA (News - Alert) Booth 3501 - Tripwire,
Inc., a leading global provider of risk-based security and
compliance management solutions, today debutedTripwire (News - Alert)®
SecureScan™, a free, cloud-based vulnerability management service for up
to 100 Internet Protocol (IP) addresses on internal networks. This new
tool makes vulnerability management - a widely recognized security best
practice among large corporations - easily accessible to small and
medium-sized businesses that may not have the resources for
enterprise-grade security technology.
Smaller businesses generally have fewer resources to invest in security,
making them extremely attractive to cyberattackers. According to
Symantec (News - Alert),cyberattacks
on small businessesrose 300 percent in 2012. Small businesses
commonly rely on anti-virus software and firewalls, but these security
controls, while useful, are not enough because they do not detect
unpatched systems that are frequently targeted by cyberattackers.
"Our goal is to raise the bar for cybersecurity because we want to help
make the Internet a safer place for everyone," said Dwayne Melancon,
chief technology officer for Tripwire. "As more individuals connect to
corporate networks from remote locations, it is increasingly important
to find ways to limit the risk these connections introduce to company
networks. This will become even more critical as the'Internet of
Things' leads tomore Internet-connected devices on our home networks,
increasing the opportunity for compromise."
Melancon continued: "Tripwire SecureScan makes it easy for smaller
organizations to know exactly which devices are on their networks, how
these devices are vulnerable and how to manage their security risks."
Tripwire SecureScan is a comprehensive vulnerability management solution
that requires no hardware or software to be installed and managed.
Organizations of any size can use the service to discover detailed
information about networked devices and find vulnerabilities in hardware
and software applications that are used in cyberattacks. Tripwire
SecureScan discovers these vulnerabilities and then provides users with
prioritized, in-depth information on how to fix these security
Tripwire SecureScan uses the same proven enterprise-classvulnerability
scanning platformbehind Tripwire's award-winning vulnerability
IP360 and Tripwire PureCloud
Enterprise. These products protect many of the largest, most
sensitive networks in the world.
Key Tripwire SecureScan features include:
Easy-to-use, with no software or hardware installation required.
Free internal vulnerability scanning for up to 100 devices four times
Easy discovery of lost or hidden devices that can result in security
Prioritized vulnerability scoring that makes it possible to fix the
most important security problems first.
"Organizations that live 'below
the security poverty line' are cutting corners on security all the
time," said Wendy Nather, research director, enterprise security
practice at 451 Research (News - Alert). "They may not have the expertise to tune and
use an open source tool either. Having a commercial product available to
them for free can help these enterprises get a leg up -- in some cases
for the first time."
