LSI Demonstrating Converged Wi-Fi and 4G Solution Using Axxia Communication Processors
(ENP Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ENP Newswire - 21 February 2014
Release date- 18022014 - SAN JOSE, Calif.-LSI Corporation (NASDAQ: LSI) today announced it will demonstrate an architecture that will provide an optimized LTE and Wi-Fi solution for enterprise networks.
The demonstration at Mobile World Congress next week will show how converged architecture solves the problem of licensed cellular LTE integrating with unlicensed Wi-Fi infrastructure by combining technologies from LSI, Quantenna and SAI Technology.
The solution was developed to address mobile data growth by blending the capabilities of both cellular and Wi-Fi infrastructures. Through centralized processing, the enterprise network can utilize both cellular LTE and Wi-Fi spectrum. The converged architecture enables operator networks that are easier to build and manage by unifying L1-L3 software architectures across licensed and unlicensed spectrum. This architecture enables cellular and Wi-Fi remote radio heads interconnected to a centralized processing cell driven by LSI Axxia communication processors.
LSI Axxia processors integrate L1-L3 Quantenna QSR1000 4x4 IEEE802.11ac Wi-Fi and L1-L3 cellular/LTE from SAI Technology onto programmable multicore CPUs and function-specific accelerators. Together, the benefits include:
Uniform coverage across the enterprise in addition to simplified configuration, reducing management and IT support costs for enterprises
Seamless integration of campus access infrastructure into macro base stations and cloud-based management platforms
Reduction of CapEx by simplifying the remote radio heads and enabling centralized processing for both LTE and Wi-Fi protocols and scaling up to support more users
Enablement of carriers to offer unified access services spanning across licensed and unlicensed spectrum with increased coverage and capacity
'The Converged Architecture offers new levels of technology integration and access flexibility to enable more uniform coverage and provide users with an improved experience with their mobile devices,' said Noy Kucuk, vice president of marketing, Networking Solutions Group, LSI. 'The LSI Axxia platform is optimized for design flexibility, and by converging Wi-Fi with LTE, this demonstration shows the benefits of easier management and cost reduction that arise from centralizing the intelligence deeper into the network.'
The LSI Axxia solution uses software-defined acceleration hardware for the central processing cells. The solution enables seamless handoffs between Wi-Fi and cellular radios in addition to enabling better coordinated multipoint routing between macro base stations and small cells.
'Small cells are beneficial for operating networks in denser areas and with higher-performing mobile devices and applications,' said Abhi Dugar, research manager, IDC. 'The demonstration from LSI, Quantenna and SAI Technology addresses a need for improved convergence of Wi-Fi and LTE so that operators can reduce costs and ease system management.'
LSI will showcase its portfolio of networking acceleration solutions at Hall 7 - Stand 7E21 at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, February 24-27.
