GSA Announces Appointment of Steve Mollenkopf as Chairman of the GSA Board of Directors

SAN JOSE, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

The Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA), the voice of the global semiconductor industry, is pleased to announce the appointment of Steve Mollenkopf as the Chairman of the GSA (News - Alert) Board of Directors for 2014 and 2015. Mollenkopf serves as chief executive officer elect and president of Qualcomm Incorporated, leading the Company's vision and driving innovation and record growth. He also serves as a member of Qualcomm's (News - Alert) Board of Directors.

In his nearly 20 years at Qualcomm, Mollenkopf has held a variety of leadership positions, including his most recent role as Qualcomm's president and chief operating officer and as a member of the executive committee, helping to drive Qualcomm's overall global strategy. He served as executive vice president and group president from September 2010 to November 2011, and executive vice president and president of QCT from August 2008 to September 2010, where he foused on driving growth and providing critical technical and operational leadership. Under his leadership, Qualcomm became the world's largest mobile chipset supplier and the global leader in LTE technology. Additionally during his tenure as executive vice president and group president, QCT also completed the $3.1 billion acquisition of Atheros (News - Alert), the Company's largest acquisition to date, to accelerate the expansion of Qualcomm's technologies and platforms beyond cellular.

Mollenkopf joined Qualcomm in 1994 as an engineer and was a leading contributor to the Globalstar (News - Alert) project before joining the QCT team in 1999. He played a central role in developing QCT's roadmap and led the development and commercialization of the 3GPP family of air interface technologies. His technical and business leadership have also been critical to the development and implementation of multiple industry-leading innovations. A published IEEE (News - Alert) author, Mollenkopf holds patents in areas such as power estimation and measurement, multi-standard transmitter system and wireless communication transceiver technology.

He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Semiconductor Industry Association and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Virginia Tech and a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan.
