Netronome Demonstrates SDN and NFV Reference Designs at TM Forum Digital Disruption 2013
SAN FRANCISCO --(Business Wire)--
Netronome (News - Alert), the leading developer of flow processing silicon and software
for OEM and ODM designers of data center solutions, today announced that
they will be showcasing production-ready reference designs for
software-defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualization
(NFV) at the TM Forum (News - Alert) Digital Disruption 2013 event, held October 28-31
at the San Jose Convention Center.
The live demonstration highlights the ability to prioritize a video
service using SDN, while also securing the service by hosting
virtualized networking functions (VNF). Netronome's flow processors and
SDN software are combined with a standard x86-based server to create a
high-performance platform that serves as an SDN gateway connecting a
multi-tenant, cloud data center to a carrier IP/MPLS transport network.
The flow processors within the platform extend the SDN data path to
include virtualized instances of open-source, Linux-based security
applications for high-performance NFV. The demonstration is under
OpenFlow™ 1.3 control, as defined by the Open Networking Foundation
"We're pleased to see the OpenFlow 1.3 specification on display at TM
Forum Digital Disruption," said Dan Pitt, executive director of the Open
Networking Foundation. "Event attendees will walk away from this
demonstration with first-person understanding of the benefits of
OpenFlow-based SDN, including traffic flow prioritization and the
ability to steer traffic to a VNF running an open-source security
Netronome's flow processors, software and SDN gateway reference design
are available to OEM and ODM designers of communication equipment who
are a pat of Netronome's early access program. Several tier-1, global,
carrier network operators are currently trialing and deploying designs
based on Netronome's solution combined with standard x86 servers.
"The TM Forum demonstration will be a noteworthy experience, allowing us
to join forces with other market leaders to prove that the many
possibilities of software-defined networking and carrier network
functions virtualization are now achievable," said Jarrod Siket, senior
vice president of marketing at Netronome. "Unlike other solutions, our
SDN gateway and NFV software implements the full OpenFlow 1.3
specification, allowing cloud data center and carrier operators to take
these technologies out of the labs and into production networks."
