Collaborative Learning Selects Latisys for High Performance Storage as a Service
(Marketwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ENGLEWOOD, CO -- (Marketwired) -- 10/15/13 --
Latisys, a leading national provider of hybrid cloud hosting and data center solutions, today announced an IaaS agreement with Collaborative Learning, Inc. (CLI) -- the leader in productivity software enabling schools to plan, monitor and analyze instruction and curriculum with benchmarks and standards.
Under terms of a multi-year agreement, CLI's IT infrastructure is now being delivered from Latisys' national IaaS platform and SOC 2 and SOC 3 audited data center in Chicago.
Used by thousands of schools and over 100,000 educators, CLI is a web-based business that delivers online learning products that must be available 24x7 and are backed by stringent service level agreements (SLAs).
CLI's business depends on its ability to provide fast storage for massive amounts of educational content -- all accessed by customers online. CLI's rapid growth necessitated a new storage system which CLI chose to outsource to an IT infrastructure as a service (IaaS) partner based on three key selection requirements:
1) The storage area network (SAN) solution needed to be the right fit for their business requirements but also one that CLI was familiar with;
2) The outsourced SAN needed to be ultra-secure with the highest levels of technical support,
3) The storage-as-a-service solution needed to be backed by aggressive service level agreements to ensure enterprise-grade reliability and redundancy.
CLI chose Latisys in part because they offered the same category-leading HP 3PAR storage system CLI had evaluated but more importantly because Latisys delivered it as an OpEx-friendly managed service -- with all the security, carrier redundancy and migration support necessary to ensure both a smooth transition and a high-performance production environment. In addition, as an online learning platform, CLI responded to Latisys' relevant experience and expertise delivering high performance IT infrastructure solutions in the higher learning market.
"Our key business and technology challenge -- storage performance -- is no longer an issue," said Steven McGlumphy, VP of Technology at CLI. "Today we are focused on innovation and expansion. The fact that Latisys understood the pressure and budgetary constraints associated with higher learning and academia made the selection process that much easier."
"Better performance and faster response times are translating to significant improvements in the customer experience," said McGlumphy. "And Latisys' outsourced solution frees up internal CLI IT resources to better align IT with the business."
"Latisys understands that peace of mind is paramount for web-dependent businesses like CLI," said Pete Stevenson, CEO of Latisys. "Managing IT infrastructure and related costs is challenging as technology rapidly evolves. Latisys is focused on right-sizing hybrid IT infrastructure solutions for today's growth businesses, but with an eye toward ensuring we can support future requirements."
Latisys recently announced the commissioning of an additional 10,000 square feet of high-density, raised floor data center space and 1.35 megawatts of additional critical power in its Chicago data center.
The Oak Brook expansion is to CHI-02 -- a 49,000 sq. ft. purpose-built Tier III facility adjacent to CHI1 -- and reflects Latisys' unwavering commitment to meet growing demand in the Chicagoland region for a secure, reliable and scalable infrastructure platform. And with power and cooling capabilities to deliver 175-225 watts per sq. ft. of usable data center space, Latisys now provides some of the highest density colocation in the Chicago area.
Latisys' Oak Brook, Illinois facility serves as the Midwest hub of Latisys' national hybrid IT Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) platform -- which includes Denver as an ideal Disaster Recovery site and Southern California and Northern Virginia as gateways to Asia Pacific, Europe, and South America. Latisys' total data center platform today exceeds 343,000 square feet across seven data centers.
