Soonr Study: Businesses are Unknowingly Putting Company Data at Risk
Sep 17, 2013 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) --
Soonr, a provider of secure file sharing and collaboration services for business, on September 12 released findings from its study, "The Changing Dynamics of Mobility in the Workplace," which examines how mobility is used by today's worker, including the devices workers use to access business files, how files are accessed and from where.
According to a release, ultimately, the Soonr study, including more than 1,000 respondents, reveals that there is a dramatic need for file sharing solutions that safeguard business data while supporting the increasing worker demand for remote and mobile access and business file collaboration.
"The rise of workforce trends including bring your own device (BYOD), working from home, and new demands for file sharing and team collaboration are creating significant risk for today's businesses as information moves freely outside of corporate firewalls," said Victoria Grey, Chief Marketing Officer, Soonr. "With the increasing use of mobile technology and the growing number of remote workers, today's IT organizations need to enable users with secure mobile and remote business file sharing technologies they need to get their jobs done effectively and confidentially."
Key findings in the Soonr study include:
-While collaboration is critical for more than three quarters (76 percent) of respondents, less than one in ten (9 percent) identified securing corporate data as a concern.
-Workers are leveraging any device they have to access business file content, with laptops at the top of the list (73 percent), followed by smartphones (69 percent), desktops (51 percent) and tablets (48 percent)
-Working from home (66 percent) is nearly as common as working from a main office (69 percent)
-Email (69 percent) and file sharing systems (52 percent) are the top ways workers are accessing business files when away from the office
Unlike other public file sharing solutions, Soonr Workplace was designed from the ground up to secure business content with a full range of security measures, including SSAE 16 (SAS 70), HIPAA Compliance and data encryption in transit and at rest. And, when the data is at rest, its regional geo-redundant data centers ensure that saved data is consistently protected. Soonr Workplace gives business users control over their shared projects, folders and files and it ensures document consistency by automatically syncing content across multiple devices.
